I have seen a weird issue on a new Lenovo Ideapad Yoga. When you try to upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 8 Pro it fails around 15%. Also on some machines Windows Update fails too.

The above symptom is associated with, but not limited to, the following Lenovo System families running Nitro Pro 7.4.1.24 PDF, or prior version under Windows 8.

I found one forum discussion talking about disabling all services except for Intel and Microsoft ones via running MSCONFIG. This worked well, however, upon further investigation, we found the culprit to be Nitro Pro 7 (the PDF software that Lenovo started to load on computers earlier this year, in place of Adobe Acrobat). So you can

Disable Nalpeiron Licensing Service, which is a service for Nitro Pro 7

or

Uninstall the Nitro Pro 7 (it is a trial version anyways)

or

Install an update to Nitro Pro 7, which fixes the issue.

The same service also causes problems with Windows Updates on Windows 8, so upgrading or removal is more of a permanent solution.
