Samsung Blackjack II and Blackberry Connect

I tried many combinations with Blackberry Connect v.4.0.0.84 and 91, changing device ID, AKU registry, etc. No luck so far. Blackjack II (Samsung i617) does not seem to be support it, yet. I'll look into editing device type (I don't think it is possible by simply editing registry) next. Has anyone had success with BBC 4 and Blackjack II?

I have the same problem with the i600 upgraded to WM6. Please keep us posted if you find a solution to editing device type.

I believe it is called Device Type, under Blackberry Connect, if I recall correctly it was listing as I617-GPRS. That's the one we need to alter

why dont you people just get the Motorola Q9, that does support the BB connect and its a much better phone / pda over all !!

It is a matter of personal choice Luciano. I used both. The keyboard on BJ II for me is much better, I like the scroll wheel and GPS (my Q9h was one of the original releases, did not have GPS on it).

has any1 tried to change the device ID to a MOTO Q9? because it supports blacberry connect. cand u can emulate that on a blackjack possibly?

I believe device type info is stored in ROM, thus, you'll have to get your hands on a Blackjack II ROM, edit the files and reprogram the device. It is not something for an average user.

o ok. its sad that its so hard for people like us to get BBC on a device like a blackjack 2 but a MOTO Q can. DAM SAMSUNG!! blackjack out sells a MOTO Q anyday. i work at ATT and i can tell you 1st had nobody owns a Q9. every1 has blackjack 2's and wishes they can have blackberry connect. idk if any1 has ever had a TILT but TILT's r useless without BBC. BBC makes a WM device a good device point blank.. we need a hacker to make this BBC work for us PLEASE

BTW I believe this is due to the device's IMEI. So basically crippling what we are doing. I’ve been on the blackberry side and everything is pretty much based on the IMEI and PIN. But it all starts off with an IMEI that a PIN is then attached to. Well at least for BIS that is. So I think we would have to find a work around for the IMEI with I believe is not going to be an easy feat.

It is not an issue with Samsung, rather an issue with the carrier not supporting BBC on a particular device.

As for Tilt, I disagree. It is a solid device with all the bells and whistles. It works great with an Exchange server and direct push.

I don't think it is IMEI related, as I have used different devices with different carriers and many of them were not even sold by the carrier but worked fine. The most recent example being Rogers and Tytn II.

Yes true direct push is awesome, but how many regular customers AKA consumers have an exchange server and know how to setup direct push? I’m simply referring to jus a standard email solution. BBC is obviously something we all love or we wouldn’t be doing this forum anyway. But really I’m talking about how any WM device's device based email client is horrible and I’m sure no1 will complain that BBC is obviously the best. Its free and there’s really no setup and u can setup almost any kind of email onto it, can u setup a OWA account onto the device based client of a TILT? Or better yet a HTTP like MSN without paying for it? And a BIS account gets yahoo for free. I’m jus saying a TILT standard email service is bad, and yes DP is good it even better but what is required for you to have it makes it inconvenient for ALOT of customers. But anyways were getting off track, Idk about any1 else but I’m tired of waiting for BBC has any1 had any further luck or information?

If an Exchange account is OWA enabled, it is most likely ActiveSync enabled, as ActiveSync is OWA based. As for MSN, it is also free on Windows Mobile 6 devices and tightly integrated into Pocket Outlook.

And to top it off, you can get a free Exchange account from www.mail2web.com. How hard is that :). It will integrate and pull all your POP3/IMAP4 emails for you.

But I agree, for average user the whole process can be overwhelming.

I haven't found any BJ or BJII users successfully running BBC, so I am always on the look. ;)

Yes I knew of that but I don’t like the pocket MSN app and we cant support it for our customers, but I never heard of the www.mail2web.com for that purpose so kudos, but it doesn’t sound like something I could recommend to our customers though haha. But yes this is unfortunate; I wish I had the time to really get into this. But sadly most of my time is at work when I can’t get down and dirty in the codes here. But I still think my idea would work. If we can somehow emulate this blackjack 2 into a MOTO Q I believe it would work. Because like what I was saying about the IMEI, when I configure a BBC account onto a TILT the tilt doesn’t have a PIN right, so BBC assigns 1. Same with the MOTO Q, so if we could find out how the equation works we should be able to get BBC to assign us a PIN like it would a MOTO Q but I believe to do that we would have to make the BJ2 to look like a MOTO Q for BBC. I can post a link for BBC for the MOTO Q if needed. Quick Q for u Sems, I never needed to look into it before so is there anyway of changing a IMEI?

Here is some useful info...

You can get into the admin settings etc with the following code:
*#1546792*#
Menu:
1 Version
2 Preconfiguration
3 Network and Call settings
4 Internal

Two of the menus require a password, it is *#81230*#

Handy as the Network and Call settings menu enables you to force it off 3G if you should so choose..

The trick is not to change IMEI. It is to change the device type and AKU version. (if you have time, read threads at xda-developers.com).

gosh this is getting so difficult lol. with all these WM6 developers why cant any1 jus hack a BBC to emulate to a BJ2? save time for every1 and we all wuldnt have to do this AKU thing

Sorry, there is no magic number that will unlock a Blackjack II. They are bound to imei number of the unit. You should contact AT&T to get it, or there are companies who can unlock for a small fee. I recommend www.gsmphonesource.com, he is very reliable and fast.

I have a Samsung i600. I have successfully downloaded Blackberry connect. However when I go to activate my account it just stays pending forever.

I have a valid enterprise password
I have service enabled from my service provider.
It should just pop in download my work e-mails, there must me a setting that is wrong. Does anyone have advice?

Are you able to get a PIN number generated successfully? Did you try different versions of the BB Connect?

No problems Nicolas. I haven't seen anyone successfully connecting BJ II to Blackberry APN, in other words you will fail to get PIN. Mostly HTC and Motorola devices are supported by Blackberry Connect on Windows Mobile.
