AT&T's Motorola Q9h is now offering Blackberry Connect. At the bottom of this page, it looks like they are hosting build 91 in CAB file format for the Smartphone.

Thanks Steve, you are right, it was .91 release. Funny thing, the country is showing as UK :). I'll update this thread with my local copy.

Sems:
what are the changes on version 92 (from v 91)?

Posted by Hugo on 12/4/2007 3:00:00 AM

Possibly very minor changes, as these point versions usually contain changes for certain carriers. There is no release notes, so can't be sure. But it worked fine with Tytn II and Schap's 4.21 rom, only problem I still had was concurrent connection, ie either I was connected to bb apn or my carrier's, not both

Posted by Sems on 12/4/2007 3:00:00 AM

Still no PIN with AT&T. Funny thing is, I bought a Tilt last week because I figured this wouldn't come out until late Q1 2008.

I guess I can still be right, but I hope not.

Posted by Andy (email) on 12/4/2007 3:00:00 AM

Andy, I am guessing you have the stock rom of AT&T, right? Did you try .84 version? That's the one released on HTC site for Tilt.

Posted by Sems on 12/4/2007 3:00:00 AM

Anyone successful w/ BBC on Treo 750 AT&T version w WM6 official? I tried 4.0.0.92 on the WM6 official w/ no joy.
Thanks,
HC

Posted by hchickers on 12/5/2007 3:00:00 AM

My Tilt works fine. I was only pointing out it was ironic that I bought it days before they 'released' it for the Q. It is my Q the can't get a PIN.

Andy

Posted by Andy (email) on 12/5/2007 3:00:00 AM

I see, should have read better Andy ;)

Hchickers, I have used it with Treo 750, but it was a Vodafone branded unit, running UK Vodafone WM6 ROM, and using Rogers Wireless SIM. And also, some versions don't work with some devices, so try couple others, like .84, .67, you might have better results.

Posted by Sems on 12/5/2007 3:00:00 AM

I have a HTC TyTN II (fresh out of the box) and tried installing BB Connect versions 4.0.0.90 and 4.0.0.92. During the install the installer reboots (this is normal), however after the reboot my TyTN II completely freezes at the Windows Mobile green spiral flash screen. The only thing that gets me out of that freeze is a hard reset returning the device to its original (unmodified) condition.

Any suggestions?

Posted by GrayTraveler on 12/5/2007 3:00:00 AM

Hi
I have tried versions .84, .90,.91 and .92 w/ same results on my ATT Treo 750; the software installs just fine, after reboot it connects to the network for a short while, gets an IP address and then falls back to "No connection" w/o getting a PIN. Anyone w/ thoughts about this ? I am (almost) ready to throw the 750 to the wall :-))

Thanks,
HC

Posted by hchickers on 12/6/2007 3:00:00 AM

Graytraveler, try .84, 90 did not work for me with a stock Tytn II, but 84 did. Or I used Dutty's latest ROM from Xda-developers.com and .92 worked fine with that.

Hchickers, you can try this:

1. Hard reset.
2. Change device ID, from Start -> Settings -> System -> About -> Device ID to HTC_P3450
3. Install a registry editor, such as Resco (www.resco-net.com) or Total Commander (www.ghisler.com, I use 2.5 beta 3). Then edit

HKLM\System\Versions\AKU key, change whatever in there (like .0.0.3) to .0.4.2

Then soft reset and install Blackberry Connect. This method worked for some people (they weren't using 750, but still). It might work for you as well.

Posted by Sems on 12/6/2007 3:00:00 AM

Hi All

Thanks for the info. I tried the trick above w/ Device ID, AKU was already 0.4.2 w/ no results w/ BBC .84. Any other thoughts ?

Thanks,
HC

Posted by Hchickers on 12/7/2007 3:00:00 AM

Sems

Thanks -- but it might not be a version problem, but a user problem. I tried to install on the "storage card" and kept getting stalls on reboot with either 4.0.0.90, 4.0.0.91, or 4.0.0.92. However, when I installed 4.0.0.91 on the "device" everything went through and is working "as advertised."

Thanks again.

Posted by GrayTraveler on 12/7/2007 3:00:00 AM

Sorry Hchickers, I am out of options.

GrayTraveler, maybe I should do a post that it needs to be always installed to Main Memory. I'll keep that in mind for questions in the future as well :)

A lot of ppls doesnt know, why BBC not connect!

Here the answer!

Blackberry generate with OS Version, Radio Version and Device ID from XIP Section a rendom PIN. This PIN will send to Balckberry! It means ... Blackberry know what OS you have and Device Type. The clue ... if you use a Cocked WM6 Rom with wrong Device ID (common Problem) and wrong OS Version. Blackberry wipe your Pin and Block your IMEI! The next Blocking rule is your Phone Carrier. If your Carrier or Country doesnt sell Handys with Black Berry Connect 4 ... you cant Access the RIM Network!

Best Example

HTC VOX -> all bbc4 versions doesnt work in the A1 Network.

HTC NIKI -> all bbc4 versions work in the A1 Network!

If you want a working BBC in your Country, with your Provider ... you must know, what Device ID and OS Build work with your Phone Carrier!!!

Then you can start do Edit the XIP Section in your WM6 Build and after that you can change the OS Version ID.

Posted by NetrunnerAT on 12/13/2007 3:00:00 AM

NetrunnerAT, when you refer to PIN, are you refering to PIN number used in Blackberry network. If so, I'll have to tell you PIN number (as used in delivering messages, PIN-to-PIN messaging, etc.) is actually based on your SIM. I have used the same SIM with so many different devices, from S621 to Tytn II and the PIN number is always the same in BBConnect.

Also, I believe what you refer as the Device ID, is the Device Type, which is set in ROM. Device ID can be set by the user.

Version 4.0.0.92 first working on my Tytn II (Kaiser)

Posted by Kresimir (email) on 1/2/2008 3:00:00 AM

I have an Eten X500 and tried installing BB Connect versions 4.0.0.84. During the install the installer reboots (this is normal), however after configuring BBC it reboots again, and my X500 completely freezes at the Windows Mobile green spiral flash screen. The only thing that gets me out of that freeze is a hard reset returning the device to its original (unmodified) condition.

Any suggestions?

Hey Juan,

Make sure to install it in main memory, not storage card. Also you can try a different version, like .90 or 92.

Posted by Sems on 1/6/2008 3:00:00 AM

Hey Sems, I just want to know once and for all. Is there any BlackBerry Connect that works on the T-Mobile Wing? I've every version and just about every installation combination (i.e. to main memory, after hard reset...) Thanks so much in advance.

Posted by sikkboy626 (email) on 1/14/2008 3:00:00 AM

I haven't received any confirmations from T-Mobile Wing users, so I don't have a solution for you. Hopefully Blackberry Application Suite will be released shortly and resolve all the issues (my Blackjack II don't work with BBC either.).

Posted by Sems on 1/14/2008 3:00:00 AM

Sounds good then. But what is the Suite supposed to include? And is there any kind of release timeframe?

Posted by sikkboy626 (email) on 1/14/2008 3:00:00 AM

Blackberry Application Suite was announced last year in April, supposed replacement for BBC, it is like a virtual Blackberry on a Windows Mobile environment. See the press release athttp://www.blackberry.com/news/press/2007/pr-23_04_2007-01.shtml

It was supposed to be out of beta early fall 2007, but haven't heard about it since then.

Posted by Sems on 1/14/2008 3:00:00 AM

Yeah, I actually do remember that. It was allegededly supposed to come out for the Dash, that's why I held onto my Dash for so long. Well, I guess you can classify it as "vaporware."

Posted by sikkboy626 (email) on 1/15/2008 3:00:00 AM

Hey Sems, I use BBC 92 (BES from my Company) Vodafone Germany on my HTC3600 with wm6. Email, Contacts and Calendar work's fine but when I use the BBC Browser, I can only connect the Internet (www.anywhere.com) and not my Company Network (Intranet.mycompany.com). In the
Exceptions from the Connections, I have include *.mycompany.com. What can I do? Thanks Alex

Posted by Alex on 1/16/2008 3:00:00 AM

Sikkboy626, it is still being developed, but the longer they wait, the more buzz they lose. They shouldn't have announced a software year ahead of time. I guess they are following Microsoft :)

Alex, first thing to check, see if your company limits access MDS (Mobile Data System). That's a common issue, as companies see it as a security risk and block access to intranet sites.

Posted by Sems on 1/16/2008 3:00:00 AM

Sems, I had before I used the HTC, a BB Device (pearl). With Perl, was browsing without problems. Thanks Alex

Posted by Alex on 1/16/2008 3:00:00 AM

What is the error message you are getting? Did you try to access via IP?

Posted by Sems on 1/17/2008 3:00:00 AM

The error message is from squid. No route to host. We have not squid in the commpany. I think thats a proxy form my ISP?! But I am sure, I use the connection "My Blackberry" from BBC.

Posted by Alex on 1/17/2008 3:00:00 AM

You can try to remove the ISP's connection and see what happens. Best way I found is to hard reset unit, delete any existing connections, install and activate BBC4. THen Blackberry Browser works fine.

Posted by Sems on 1/17/2008 3:00:00 AM

Hi Sems,

I have a problem with tytn II, installed BB connect and all went fine. Connects to BES and although its slow I am able to send and receive emails. 2 problems:
1) internet/web access is slow or sometimes times out(error msg). I can see the H icon so I am running 3.5G. any idea how to fix that. What are the proxy settings for MDS
2) I have the BB icon on the main page and when I try to dial a number ie to make a phone call the icon is still there and it pushes the dial window up, because of that i am unable to see the number I am dialling. Do you have this problem also. What do you think the fix can be?
3) I have installed 4.0.0.90 how can I upgrade to 4.0.0.92 how do I install the cab. A step by step guide would be appreciated.

Thanks for your help in advance

Posted by ssaidak (email) on 1/20/2008 3:00:00 AM

1. The proxy settings for MDS are setup automatically in registry, so I don't recall it off the top of my head. But it is an either or situation. It either works or does not work at all. Keep in mind, you may be seeing H on top, but if your coverage is not good enough, it won't be full speed. Also there might be an issue with your BES server.

2. Never seen such a problem. The icon on the today screen should not affect your dialer page. Are you dialing straight thru your today screen, or are you hitting dial button first and enter number? I always hit the dial button first.

3. It is a simple as, go to Settings - Remove Programs, uninstall 90, then download and install the 92.

Posted by Sems on 1/20/2008 3:00:00 AM

Hi Sems,

It seems that the dial window has resolved its self. Thanks for that. I have another problem now and its power. It seems that the battery does not last as long as I expect it to. Do you have any suggestion of a better more powerful battery that would fit the HTC TyTN II? I have seen some betters on the net with 3000mAh. So you think they would work?

Thanks

Posted by ssaidak (email) on 1/24/2008 3:00:00 AM

Anything that uses constant Internet connection, including Blackberry Connect, Active Sync Direct Push, drains the battery.

I can offer couple solutions.

1. Grab an extended battery. The more power it has, the longer it will last of course. Keep in mind some are thicker than the original, which may bring extra bulk.

2. Keep a mini usb cable and usb charger that uses AA batteries. Energizer, igo.com, and many others have similar chargers. They are great to charge on the go.

I purchased extended batteries from lionbattery.com and they worked great (for my HP 6515, Tytn, Starcom 6700, etc.).

I know the new Blackberry OS 4.5 (4.3) will have HTML redering for email, does anyone know if they will update BBConnect with HTML Email? or does it already have it?

I am trying to decide on a curve or a tilt

Posted by Eyeless (email) on 1/29/2008 3:00:00 AM

Actually, it is a combination. BES 4.1.5 will support HTML emails and on the client end you'll need Blackberry OS 4.3. Considering it needs an update to Blackberry OS, I'd say Blackberry Connect will need a new version as well.

Posted by Sems on 1/29/2008 3:00:00 AM

HELP! I updated my unlocked S620 from WM5 WM6 using a ROM from T-Mobile US. This went off fine. I then proceeded to download and install BBC.4.0.0.91. After the initial BBC setup the unit restarted but ever since has not booted up correctly. It switches between the T-mobile screen and every now and then shows the WinMobile screen. On one occasion it displayed a warning not to power off until installation was complete.

What do I do? I this thing a lemon now?

Yash

Posted by Yasher (email) on 1/30/2008 3:00:00 AM

Simply hard reset the unit, then try a different version.

Posted by Sems on 1/31/2008 3:00:00 AM

Will any of these versions work on the T-Mo Wing? .92 will not generate a pin for me...

Posted by Steve (email) on 2/1/2008 3:00:00 AM

May or may not. The success is related to OS version, AKU version, carrier, and device type. Some devices work with some (for example .84 works good with HTC Tytn II), some device won't work at all (like Samsung i607, i617). Your best option is give it a shot.

Posted by Sems on 2/2/2008 3:00:00 AM

Hello everybody,
maybe you can provide help.
I had downloaded some time ago the BB Connect 4.0 software from Sems.org and installed it on my TYTN II.
Everything works fine and I can access smoothly my mail.
The only issue that I had was that upon installation of the software and rebooting the pda I could not access any more the HTC Home application which is the one visible as soon as you turn on your device.
I tried every single thing to fix the problem: soft reboot / hard reboot / etc. etc.
It's like the BB software installs over the HTC Home application itself...
Any suggestions? Did you have the same issue?
Does the new BB Connect version solve the issue?
Thank you for your feedback.

Hi All,

I have a Blackjack II from AT&T, and trying to load this blackberry software to the phone. I've loaded the program to the phone and I'm having same problem as GrayTraveler which it will shows "Network Available" and then "Not Connected". I can't get the PIN on my phone. I do have blackberry plan on my voice plan so it shouldn't have any problem getting the blackberry service up and running on my phone.

Can anyone help this desperate person to have the phone work with blackberry service???

Posted by Blackjack II (email) on 2/4/2008 3:00:00 AM

Hi Danielle,

Did you try to disable the Today plugins related to Blackberry and soft reset? Which ROM version are you running? The stock one? Which version of BB Connect did you install, .84?

Blackjack II,

Sorry, I tried several different things, including changing registry for AKU version info, it won't work on a Blackjack II. I looked around several forums and haven't seen any success stories with Blackjack II yet.

Posted by Sems on 2/4/2008 3:00:00 AM

Hello Sems,
yes my ROM is the one already present in the device...is there an updated one? Is it convenient to upgrade the ROM?
My BB version installed is the 4.0.0.84.
I have received from Ssaidak the link to the 4.0.0.91 version which I will try to install.
How do you disable the Today plugins related to BB (this I will try as last option)?
Many thanks for your help.
Regards.

thanks to Ssaidak I was able to solve the missing HTC Home application issue.
Installing the newer version of BB Connect (.91) did the trick.
Kudos to Ssaidak and to Sems.org!

There is dime a dozen cooked ROMs (ie. ROMs edited by individuals). These are available at xda-developers.com forums. However, you have to be careful, as you may brick your device, if you don't follow the instructions. If you are happy with your device, leave it with current ROM. If you like to try latest and greatest, try the ROMs. First step will be to update the SPL, then you'll download and install the ROM.

For future reference, you can edit your today plugins at Start - Settings - Today.

Glad to hear .91 solved your problems. Cheers,

Sems

Hi,
I have problem with my HTC X7500 devices, any version of BB Connect software don't connect to blackberry network. One of my devices have WM5, other WM6.
Some body know how to corect this problem?

Thanks in advance.

Chochi

Posted by chochi (email) on 2/6/2008 3:00:00 AM

Hi Giorgio,

First, make sure you are installing it into the device memory, not storage card. Second, BB Connect is picky on device type, ROM version, and carrier. Also some versions of it won't work with some devices. For example .84 works fine on my HTC Tytn II, but .92 wont. So you can try different versions.

Chochi,

I was able to run BB Connect .84 on my both WM5 and WM6 HTC Athena. It could be the ROM version issue. You can try a different ROM and flash it to your unit, or you can try a different version of BB Connect. And as above, make sure you are installing to main memory.

Hi Sems, thank you for the answer.
I have try to install all bb connect versions on the main memory but I have always the same result : PIN "suspended" (not generated).

If the answer is yes I have a problem (the rom? were can I find a new rom for my polaris?).

Same problem PIN Pending!
Any suggestions ?

Posted by Polaris on 2/7/2008 3:00:00 AM

Dear Polaris,
I have the same problem, the generation of the PIN depends of the phone's IMEI, actualy alle bb connect version do not generate the PIN (suspend) because the IMEI if out of range (too new?...may be).
I hove to see a new version that fix this bug
Regards
Giorgio

Posted by Giorgio (email) on 2/8/2008 3:00:00 AM

Tomtest, Giorgio, Chochi, Polaris,

First, I haven't heard such a thing as IMEI being out of range for any Blackberry Connect client, I am highly doubtful of that.

Second, Blackberry Connect 4 depends upon not only your IMEI but other things as device type, aku version and your carrier. These, afaik, all come into place when generating a PIN. And to add to matters, I have seen even strange solutions, for example (from xda-developers:

"My HTC Touch works like a charme on vodafone Germany (BES, Blackberry Connect 4). I also had problems at the beginning to obtain a PIN (look for my earlier posts), but a "forced" waiting time of about 2 days with the phone switched-off solved it for me. Since then: no problems (even a soft-reset is not a problem).

And, the device is identified as HTC-ELF by Blackberry (can be seen on the info page in blackberry connect on my Touch), so I do not believe the stories that Blackberry is banning the device if not supported. Because vodafone Germany does not support the HTC Touch!

Be patient and wait for the PIN, that's my advice!!"

So, there is no perfect solution, unless your device is officially supported by Blackberry. There are many successful users on different devices, and there are many failing.

Posted by Sems on 2/8/2008 3:00:00 AM

Forgot to add, if you are using 3G, try switching to 2G. Many users swear by it works that way.

Posted by Sems on 2/8/2008 3:00:00 AM

Dear Sems,
thanks for the advice. Maybe my case is a little specific. I used a Blackberry device with my current sim card and thus already have/had a PIN. Then I put the sim card into ARTEMIS, and ARTEMIS is trying to connect to a server (I can see the IP shortly) and the disconnects immediately. I will try the "wait and see" option but hope you could give me a further advise.

Posted by tomtest (email) on 2/8/2008 3:00:00 AM

Tomtest,

Your case is not much different actually. Every Blackberry Connect user must have a Blackberry service set up on their sim card. However, unlike a Blackberry device, where PIN is embedded to hardware, on Blackberry Connect it is software generated.

The short connection symptom is also same as many others who are having troubles. Because, of either device type, or rom or your SIM card number, the PIN generated does not get accepted by the network and fails.

The only suggestion is to check xda-developers.com forums, there might be a cooked rom, that does support Blackberry connect (its device id and/or aku version altered).

Posted by Sems on 2/9/2008 3:00:00 AM

Hi Sems,
I haw try to "Be patient and wait for the PIN, that's my advice!!"
I have installed the version 92 and wait for 4 days but nothing is changed.
Do you think that in the future a new version of bb connect fix the PIN "pending" problem on Polaris (P3650)?
Asyou can see all Poalris have the same problem.
Any suggestion?
Many thanks and regards
Giorgio

Posted by Giorgio (email) on 2/13/2008 3:00:00 AM

It all depends if a carrier will support Polaris and BBC. If so, then you can download the install from that provider and it should be fine. But I don't know if any carrier would do that in near future.

Posted by Sems on 2/13/2008 3:00:00 AM

Hi Sems,

I have a Blackerry device which works OK. I take out its Sim card and put it in my HTC TyTnII. I installed BB connect and I got Pin and IP. However I am not receiving any e-mail.
I try to activate the phone through the option corporate activation but nothing happens and I dont receive any e-mail message.
I would like to know if once the pin and IP have been obtained I should infer that RIM accepts my ROM-Device-SIM. Is it possible that even having a good pin and IP my device is blocked because the carrier ( movistar)does not allow the use of BB connect on HTC Ty TnII.
Thanks

Posted by Jon (email) on 2/16/2008 3:00:00 AM

Once a PIN is generated and you got an IP, all is well. The next thing you need to do is to do, if you are using a BES server, have your server admin generate an activation password, then under activation use your email address and activation password to activate the account. It will then download the necessary service books and you'll start receiving emails. If you are using BIS, you'll need to go to the BIS server logon page, logon and change your device info to the new PIN and IMEI. The only problem you might have there, Movistar's BIS server may not accept the PIN.

Does anyone know how to repair the issue with "illegal device pin". I am on a Tmobile Dash and I used the .97 build that seems to be an issue. I had previously used the .76 and .91 without issue. I reloaded the correct software but it does not seem to help.

I talked to my BES admin and he couldn't see how to fix it.

What can i do?

It looks like your device is application locked. You can check the info at http://www.sems.org/entry.asp?ENTRY_ID=157. Once device is unlocked, you should not receive certificate errors during a cab install. Then you can try different BBC versions.

Sems,

BB Connect 4.0.0.97 is available here:

No idea about the fixes of the update.

As far as I have read from the xda-developers.com and other forums, unless some changes are made to the ROM, 6.1 is not compatible with BBC.

Hi Sems,
I wold like know that do you think about my problem
I have a HTC Athena with WM6 .
With all BB Connect I have the same probem
I try to register my HTC with the utility > register tab
On the status:
- network available
- Data tunnel available
- Not connected (after 1 second)

If I use a Blackberry terminal al work fine.

Do you think if I downgrade my HTC to WM5 I have some probaility of register my Athena with blackberry network?
Thank you

Posted by hatid1 (email) on 3/2/2008 3:00:00 AM

Hi Matias,

The Blackberry Connect implements its own proxy and some programs will be fine with it. For others, you'll have to define your provider's regular APN and use that connection with them.

Hatid1,

While I ran long time ago WM6 and Athena successfully with BBC, I don't recall version details. With that said, I know WM5 works fine with BBC on Athena for sure. Before giving up, try different BBC versions, also check your registry settings, make sure AKU version is list .0.4.2 . Finally check the threads on xda-developers.com on Athena. There might be other solutions. Are you using the HTC's WM6 or a cooked one.

Posted by Sems on 3/2/2008 3:00:00 AM

Thank you Sems,
Can you help me ..... how to check the registry setting for check the AKU version?
Regards

Posted by hatid1 (email) on 3/2/2008 3:00:00 AM

Download a registry editor, such as Mobile Registry Editor (http://www.breaksoft.com/Blog/Utilities/2005/1/Mobile_Registry_Editor.aspx)

Browse to HKLM>System>Version>AKU

There you'll see it.

Posted by Sems on 3/2/2008 3:00:00 AM

Sems,
the AKU version is .0.7.0
it's ok?
Regards

Posted by hatid1 (email) on 3/2/2008 3:00:00 AM

As written in my previous comment, it needs to be .0.4.2, .0.7.0 will not work. There is lots of threads on Blackberry Connect on xda-developers.com forums, I suggest reading them as well.

Hi

tried to install BB connect on out of the box HTC Touch Cruise (Polaris) with O2-UK carrier and SIM from company's BES.

4.0.0.67, .84, .90, .91, .92 and .97 didn't work for me.

After installation and Blackberry Setup I get:

PIN pending
IMEI it's ok
IP address No connection

Status/Service Not Connected

By pressing the "register now" button I get Blackberry Edge connection, Status/Service shows Network Available then Data Tunnel Available and finally "Not Connected". During the process I can see an IP address in the Identity screen.

Email Settings unavailable, Utility tab only "Register Now" button available, Service List is empty, Details for connection (APN,etc.) are correct, Device type is HTC-Polaris.

I used Blackberry Connect Desktop 4.0.0.18, I can see a PIN which is the same I got from my BB phone. By pressing "Configure Wireless Handset" I get this message "Blackberry Connect Desktop was unable to interact with your device (returned PIN 0)".

I searched the web for hints but no one seems to be able to have BBc on HTC_Polaris.

I ran out of idea, any suggestions please?

Thanks in advance for your attention.

Sems,

I use HTC Touch and BB Connect. It works fine (downloads my emails successfully). My question is: how could I browse internet through BB Connect? What should I set up? I don't have BB Browser in the BlackBerry folder and when I open IE to browser it tries to connect to my mobile service provider without success - I guess I don't have internet access via the GSM provider (company phone). What should I do / check?

Thank you for your answer in advance,

was using mda compact 2 running wm6 touch lite 3.01 with BBC 4.0.92 on t-mobile UK. All ok, I can using both bb connection and t-mbile gprs connection at the same time.
but on the new mda vario 3 running wm6 5.2.1620(18125.0.4.2) and same BBC 4.0.92 on t-mobile UK. The BB is working fine also the t-mobile gprs connection. but just can't make them to work at the same time. as soon as using google maps and connect to t-mobile gprs/3G connection, it just kick BB connection off. and BBC show message like 'blocked-Radio in use'. HTC_Polaris_UK,

I have ran out of ideas on Polaris as well, but I was using a WM 6.1 cooked ROM. Which ROM/OS version are you using? Have you tried to set the AKU version in registry?

Bonyback,

Yes, it is related to the hardware and OS. Technically WM6 supports connection to the multiple APNs, but the hardware may not. You can try editing the registry, this article should help:

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb416529.aspx

Hatid1,

I already wrote on above comments on how to download a registry editor. All you need is to connect your device, run the Mobile Registry Editor on desktop and edit the necessary key.

Andrew,

Which version of Blackberry Connect are you using? 4.0? If you have activated a BIS account, you should have a Internet Browser icon. Please read chapter 11 of the Blackberry Connect User Guide, you can grab it at

http://sems.org/content/download/bbc4/BlackBerry_Connect_4.0_ppc_user_guide_english.pdf

Posted by Sems on 3/7/2008 3:00:00 AM

Hi Sems
thanks for your reply.

I used the original ROM, WM6 Pro, CE OS 5.2.1623

AKU .0.4.5
Device Type is 257

I changed AKU to .0.4.2 and tried .91 but still same result.

O2 UK is now adopting XDA Orbit2 (Polaris) but not currently supporting BBconnect. I'll keep an eye open for updates and let you know.

Posted by HTC_Polaris_UK on 3/7/2008 3:00:00 AM

Sounds like a plan, if I find a cooked or other that works, I'll post it here as well.

Posted by Sems on 3/7/2008 3:00:00 AM

Sems,

Thanks for the answer. I use BB Connect 4.0.0.92. Could you please tell me how to activate BIS account? (I did not find such option in the menu, just Enterprise Activation which I have completed.)

Andrew

Posted by Andrew on 3/10/2008 3:00:00 AM

It is in Chapter 5 of the same user guide Andrew. Under Utility tab, you should see Email Setup option in Blackberry application. Also, if you have completed BES activation, unless your BES admin is not allowing BB Browser, you should have an icon for it in Blackberry Folder as well.

Finally, if you want, you can disable the Blackberry Proxy in IE and use your provider's APN to connect to the internet, instead of Blackberry.net APN. See http://www.sems.org/entry.asp?ENTRY_ID=248#1565, on how to disable proxy in IE.

Hello everybody,

I have a question about BBC and MDS...

I have currently install a BES 4.1.4 and the BBC 4.0.0.97.
In the Blackbery Folder I have the two browsers:
- Blackberry Browser
- Internet Browser

With the Internet Browser I can access the Internet via the APN from RIM.
With the Blackberry Browser I can access the Internet via MDS over the company AND can access company resources (WEB servers).

What I am missing now is to use WM6 application like putty to access internal SSH host.
So is it possible to use the MDS with BBC for TCP connections?
With an real BB device it was possible to use third party application with TCP connection.

I didn't found any information for MDS TCP access with WM6 and BBC......

Chuck

Posted by Chuck on 4/4/2008 3:00:00 AM

I haven't used BBC for a while, but I remember using several apps directly, while only APN defined on the device as blackberry.net and only BES activation was done.

Have you tried the SSH (or anything else)? Any errors? Anything showing up on BES MDS logs?

Trying to load BBC ww6 standard 4.0.o.84 exe for use with a AT&T Treo 750. When it trys to load the cab file to the phone, I get the message "Unable to install Uncertified software detected". It does not finish loading. thoughts?

thanks

Posted by rickey on 4/5/2008 3:00:00 AM

Very simple, BBC for WM6 Standard is designed for Windows Mobile 6 Standard running devices, whereas a Treo 750 runs Windows Mobile 5 or Windows Mobile 6 Professional. Download that version and you'll be fine.

Posted by Sems on 4/6/2008 3:00:00 AM

When I updated the OS, I loaded WM6 Pro. I have also loaded BBC. I was successful with version 4.0.0.97 on the Treo 750. Everything appears to have loaded OK, but I just cannot get the Blackberry Service to connect. I admit that one time yesterday it did connect but has not since. Any thoughts??
thanks

Posted by Rickey on 4/6/2008 3:00:00 AM

Rickey, this is a common known issue. BBC is checking your provider info, OS version and device type. If it is not a supported device, it will block the connection.

Also, not all versions work properly on all devices, so you can try with different versions.

Finally, Edge works better with BBC, so disable UMTS/HSDPA and retry.

Posted by Sems on 4/6/2008 3:00:00 AM

>>>Have you tried the SSH (or anything else)?

I have try SSH, ping and "Get HTML" with the tool vxUtil.
I get every time a socket failure :( when I use the same URL in the "Blackberry Browser" it works.

>>>Any errors?

Yes, every time socket error.

>>>Anything showing up on BES MDS logs?

No entries in the logs.

So I belive that currently only the "Blackberry Browser" works and no third party programms as example "Putty".
Of course for my understanding MDS should use for all TCP/IP connection, and with an real BB device it is working with SSH.

I have already contacted my provider (Blackberry support) but till today I have get no answer.

Maybe anbody else can try to test this if it works with the BBC software?

Posted by Chuck on 4/7/2008 3:00:00 AM

Well I did disable UMTS/HSDPA with no luck. I haven't loading a different version of blacberry software on the Treo, but will.

I did notice something odd today. The Blackberry desktop will not recognize the Treo when tethered. However, ActiveSysnc does. I uninstalled ActiveSync to see if that had any effect....no differece. I would think as a minimun, the Blackberry desktop software should find the phone. I'm running version 4.3

thanks

I no longer have a device that works with Blackberry Connect, so I can't try Chuck. Maybe someone reading this thread can help you out.

Rickey, Blackberry Desktop will not work with Blackberry Connect. There is a different desktop software for Blackberry Connect devices.

Posted by rickey on 4/7/2008 3:00:00 AM

I have tried all versions of BBC 4 on my Treo 750 and none of them work. They all install ok but fail to connect to blackberry apn. Apparently the Treo 750 is blocked by RIM

Posted by Henrik on 4/8/2008 3:00:00 AM

Hi Sems, if I have an BB, I can use BB APN for Internet apps, eg Browser, Jivetalk, Viigo, etc. If I have an WM6 with BBC, can I do the same? Thanks.

Posted by Godfrey (email) on 4/8/2008 3:00:00 AM

Rickey, I added the link to the top of this post, under Desktop.

Henrik, I believe some carriers allow Treo 750V, I guess yours is not one of them.

Godfrey, some apps, like IM+, works fine with Blackberry APN, some, like MSN Messenger, don't. However, for those apps, you can use your carrier's Internet APN, similar to using the TCP settings on a Blackberry device. Also, some devices will allow to connect both APNs at the same time, which was very cool. Windows Mobile 6 supports this, however, limitation comes from:

a. Carrier. They can put a flag in SIM to block concurrent APN connections.

b. Device Radio. Some device radio will not support it.

I had success with HTC S621 in the past.

Posted by Sems on 4/9/2008 3:00:00 AM

I have tried the above. When I try to connect via the BBC desktop the computer displays an icon stating local area connection. When I try to configure the wireless handset I get the message unable to load device connection file. I am using BBC desktop 4.0.0.19 and version 4.0.0.97 on the Treo.
If I load and use Activesync, the computer then knows that the phone is a Palm Treo

again thanks

Anyone get BBC to run on Blackjack i607 with WM5 running?

Posted by badsector on 4/10/2008 3:00:00 AM

Thanks Sems. I get unlimited BIS/BES data plan but not regular mobile data plan. If I use the carrier's APN, I need to pay extra and being charged per Kb. That's why I was asking. Thanks and cheers.

Posted by Godfrey (email) on 4/10/2008 3:00:00 AM

Rickey, BBC Desktop relies on ActiveSync, so it has to be installed. However, it will not fix any issues related to connection. If your device/carrier/software version combo is supported, it should connect to the Blackberry.net APN and stay connected.

Usap, haven't seen any i780 success stories so far. Badsector, same for you.

Godfrey, no problems. Did you check with your carrier? Many carriers allow carrier APN connections on Blackberry devices without extra charges, as many apps won't work with BIS or BES (T-mobile, ATT both allows it in US).

Has anyone else got the T Mobile Touch working on BB Connect my carrier is O2uk?

Sems .... yes I have tried to connect with Activesysnc both installed and not installed. With it installed I get the message that it was unable to interact and returned a Pin 0. I'm thinking that my Treo 750 is a cingular that is locked and just is not supported. I wonder if I unlock it if that would help. thanks

Posted by Rickey on 4/11/2008 3:00:00 AM

S620 should be fine. BBConnect is not tied to IMEI, so you can freely change devices. Actually, when a PIN is generated it is based on your SIM card number, so when you switch devices, your PIN should stay the same. However, of course, when switching devices, you'll need to complete BES activation again.

Rickey, it shouldn't matter if phone is SIM locked or not, as the process does not rely on it. Simply your BBC version/device/carrier/OS combo is not supported, thus a PIN number cannot be generated (hence the PIN being 0). You can try the European 750V ROM and see if that helps.

Posted by Sems on 4/11/2008 3:00:00 AM

I had previously loaded the Treo Uploader 2.25. I did search the net and it appeared that the Treo 750V Europe is the Uploader 2.18 which I did load. Neither will connect. The only difference I can see is that with the 2.25 the "configure" is highlighted whereas with the 2.18 it is not.... thanks

Hi Sems,

Do you know if any of the later versions (later than 4.0.0.84) work any better on an HTC Excalibur?

I have one that is getting intermittent Blackberry connection dropouts and hope that this might resolve them?

Posted by oc (email) on 4/16/2008 3:00:00 AM

Sorry, I am out of ideas Rickey.

OC, I doubt it, they are point releases. But there is no release notes. You can try them out, if they fail, you can revert back. One suggestion though, make sure to hard reset the unit before switching versions. A clean start can make a lot of difference.

but everytime I want to use my web messenger I have to suspend the BBC and use it.
is there any way to use them together?

Posted by Payman (email) on 4/22/2008 3:00:00 AM

Which version of BBC are you using on Q? 2.1? or 4.0? I haven't used BBC on Q, so it is hard to tell. Some devices are capable of connecting two connections at the same time, and with that you won't need to suspend. But I guess Q is not one of them. Also, are you connected to a BES or BIS server? Webmessenger might be able to connect through a BES server, when I was using my HTC S621, I was able to use IM+ like that, no suspension.

The downloads here are for GSM devices, so I don't think any will work for you. Bell had released Blackberry Connect 2.1 for the old Q, but I don't recall Telus releasing any. You might want to call Telus data support and check.

Hi there Sems,

was wondering if anyone tried bb connect on htc s730, because I constantly get PIN: Pending....

SIM works perfectly with my 9300i communicator, so it's not operator problem.

It's official Windows mobile 6 standard version, installed by htc.

Some ppl say that if you install bb connect version 2.1.2.54 it generates pin correctly, then you could uninstall it, but keep the changes, and install new version, and everything works.

Just can't seem to find anywhere version of 2.1.2.54 for download? You got any? Or any other idea?

Best regards,

Josip

Posted by jdjurici on 5/1/2008 3:00:00 AM

I don't have 2.1.2.54 at hand but you should be able to find it from different provider sites, such as vodafone.de. However, most of the ones I have seen is for Pocket PC, not smartphones.

Posted by Sems on 5/2/2008 3:00:00 AM

Hi all, what is the difference between the standard and the professional versions? I cannot install any of the standard versions on my WM6 device.
Regards

Posted by akp on 5/2/2008 3:00:00 AM

As with the new Windows Mobile 6 naming convention, Windows Mobile 6 Professional designates Pocket PCs, ie. devices with touch screens. Similarly Windows Mobile 6 Standard designates smartphone devices, no touch screens.

So if your device is a Pocket PC, you should use the professional edition.

Is there a way to schedule the BBConnect to connect/disconnect automatically (version 4.0.0.97) instead of having to Suspend Service manually to conserve battery?

Checking the Nokia Version S60 BBConnect you can setup a time schedule as to when the BBConnect Service will run. Have tried BandSwitch to no avail as BBConnect automatically restarts connection GSM/EDGE or 3G. Thanks..

Posted by Dave on 5/13/2008 3:00:00 AM

I haven't seen any success/failure stories of BBC4 on 8502 or 9502. If I recall correctly, it does not work on i780.

As for scheduling, there is nothing for it in RIM's knowledge base or in the Windows Mobile version of the software.

Hi,

Well, I saw some failures today .... just got my 8502 and tried BBC w/ no success. The device gets an IP address but changes to the dreaded "No Connection" right after that. I'll keep on trying but I doubt any success ... unless: 1) someone comes w/ a hack or 2) RIM decides to support the devices so they can register w/ the network 3) etc.

All the best everyone !

4.0.0.90 and .97 didn't work for me.

I recieved the same message "Blackberry Connect Desktop was unable to interact with your device (returned PIN 0)".

I am using Original ROM and AKU .0.4.2

Do you know how to solve it?

Thnaks a lot.

Posted by drAgon (email) on 5/22/2008 3:00:00 AM

J, actually you should NOT install BBC into storage card, it will cause troubles, including locking your device.

Rick, you can try to use a different ROM or different version of BBC, some versions don't work with some devices. Try .84 for example.

Martin, sorry, I have no solutions, many of Windows Mobile devices are blocked by RIM, many of the times, the device need to be supported by your carrier.

Simply open File Explorer on your device, browse to My Documents folder and click on the cab file to start its installation.

You can do a wireless activation, you do not need the desktop software, as long as your BES is running 4.0 or higher.

Keep in mind, I have not seen anyone successfully running BBConnect with BJ II. So, good luck :)

I've gotten BBC to work on a HTC (Niki) Touch dual. The BB email side of things is working well. The browsing thru the Blackberry servers is painfully slow. It uses a special configuration of Internet Explorer.
Has anyone found a fix for this?

Configuration is:
BBC 4.0.0.97 ver
WM6 Pro
(CE 5.2.1622 build 18128.0.4.4)

Thanks

Posted by yohans on 5/23/2008 3:00:00 AM

Yohans, are you using BIS or BES?

Posted by Sems on 5/24/2008 3:00:00 AM

I'm using BIS

Okay - I have an HTC Touch Dual North America Version Neon 300 and I am haveing trouble getting the BB connect to work on this unit. On my past two HTC Touches I had the BB connnect version 4.0..91 versiio up an running on these units. What do I have to do to get this BB connect to work on my North America Touch Dual. I have .97 version of bb connect on the unit and it just tells me that the PIN is pending. IMEI is clear and sometimes on connection I get the IP address for a second. Please help because this is a great phone but I have to have the BB connect working for my email. What has to be done? I am on AT&T previously cingular and here are my specs

ROM 2.21.422.04
ROM date: 5/6/08
Radio Version: 1.65.20.19
Protocol Version: 25.86.40.4w

Posted by Jay (email) on 5/25/2008 3:00:00 AM

Yohans, it is using a proxy server to connect through blackberry.net APN. In my experience here in Canada it wasn't very slow at all. Are you using EDGE or UMTS/HSDPA? Did you try different sites? The only possible fix is to disable temporarily BBConnect (suspend it) and then use your carrier's APN to connect to internet.

Jay, you can try to install another ROM or different version of BBConnect. Maybe that will help.

Posted by Sems on 5/26/2008 3:00:00 AM

Sems what is the procedure for loading another ROM and which ROM would you suggest. By the way I need simple directions in terms of loading a new ROM. I am a novice but if the directions are straigt forward then I can follow

Posted by Jay (email) on 5/26/2008 3:00:00 AM

The procedure of loading a new ROM is pretty straightforward:

1. Make sure you have 50% or more charge.
2. Plugin the device desktop, preferably running XP.
3. Run the ROM update utility and follow its instructions.

As I don't have a Touch Dual, I can't recommend a ROM version. If Yohans is still reading, you can ask him his ROM, as he was able to connect fine. He stated "CE 5.2.1622 build 18128.0.4.4". You can find ROMs at HTC site, as well as at Xda-developers - http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Niki

The Xda-developers forums are also very useful, there might be people to assist you better.

Posted by Sems on 5/26/2008 3:00:00 AM

Yohans - can you tell me the ROM that your HTC touch Dual is using. It will be located under the device information located programs and the system tab and the folder will say Device Information

Posted by Jay (email) on 5/26/2008 3:00:00 AM

Jay, my ROM details are:
ROM version 1.31.710.11
ROM date 11/16/07
Radio version 1.58.16.27
Protocol version 25.61.30.03H

One thing that I found out in setting up this service is that there are Blackberry network access points that have to be added to your account by your carrier. Without these settings all you get is a pin pending message which I had for a day until the access points were added.

Sems, the connection is Blackberry HSDPA. I'd like to avoid using the carrier direct internet connection because here in Australia it's quite expensive. How do I try different sites for Blackberry?

Posted by Yohans on 5/27/2008 3:00:00 AM

Yohans,

Can you elaborate on "Blackberry network access points that have to be added to your account"? Do you mean you need to have Blackberry or Blackberry Connect service under your account?

Once you activate a BIS or BES account on your device using Blackberry Connect Software, under your Programs, you'll see a folder named Blackberry, which will have Internet Browser and/or Blackberry Browser (first one comes when BIS is active, second one comes when BES is). Use those browsers, they will use your Blackberry connection, not a separate APN.

Posted by Sems on 5/29/2008 3:00:00 AM

"Blackberry network access points" must be some settings on my Blackberry Plan on my account. This is something managed by the account provider. That's all I know. Once this was fixed my pin came through.

I understand about the different browsers, however browsing through the BB service is slow even though the conection is HSDPA.

I have a separate question.

How can I get other applications to be able to use the BB connection e.g. Google Maps, Worldmate cannot get any connnection through the BB BIS internet connection.

Posted by Yohans on 6/2/2008 3:00:00 AM

I have received my T-Mobile Vario III (Tytn II), installed Dutty's 29 April, changed AKU to .0.4.2, installed BBC 4.0.0.92, and got a PIN and IP, BBC says connected.
Is there a way to confirm that it can really talk with our BES server before I (attempt to) make the transfer from my BlackBerry to my BBC enabled Tytn II?

(The reason I ask is that when I tried an over-the-air activation, it said (after many minutes) that the server wasn't responding, but this can also be because this PIN has not yet been added to the BES server...)

Posted by Francesco Peeters on 6/2/2008 3:00:00 AM

Yohans,

If the applications have proxy options, you can set them to use the same proxy as the browser. As i dont have a unit with bbc installed, cant tell you what is the proxy settings, but you should be able to find them in the registry.

If it says connected Francesco, and it stays that way, all is well. OTA error you received can happen due to many issues, so like you said make sure your email account is added to BES (for enterprise activation you add email address to bes, not pin)

Posted by Sems on 6/3/2008 3:00:00 AM

Plunged in the deep end, connected the BBC Desktop client to my phone, confirmed that I wanted to change the PIN and 1 minutes later I am on line!

Now to dig up those proxy settings... ;)
(Is there a proxyfier type app for WinMob???)

Posted by Francesco Peeters on 6/3/2008 3:00:00 AM

Good luck, searching "proxy" in registry should do the trick

Hi all

Is there any version of BBC that will work on the HP IPAQ 6815 (personal messenger)

Running WM5

Thanks

Posted by matt (email) on 6/10/2008 3:00:00 AM

Maximus Alfredo,

You can try different versions, some versions don't work on some phones. Make sure to install to main memory. As for GPS, I'd recommend Garmin XT Mobile, it works great, www.garmin.com.

Matt,

I haven't heard any success stories running BBC on 6815, but you can try out different versions and see what happens.

Hi

Can someone suggest the best PDA (compatible with Vodafone UK) that I can use Blackberry Connect on

Any help would be appreciated

Posted by matt (email) on 6/10/2008 3:00:00 AM

It really depends on your personal preferences, check the comments and you'll see many success stories. HTC Tytn II for example is a great unit, but can be bulky for some users.

Posted by Sems on 6/10/2008 3:00:00 AM

Sems,

A question on the BBC proxy thing:
I noticed that the proxy info I found in the registry (which, BTW, can also be seen in your settings-connections dialog when you make the "My Blackberry" connection your default Internet connection, like I did to prevent unwanted connections to the expensive TMob Internet connecion!) will change whenever the BBC client gets a new IP address, and always matched that IP address...

(So if the BBC had IP 120.180.160.102, then the HTTP proxy will be 120.180.160.102:1025, and the other proxies will be empty)

Is this the correct one, or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Would 127.0.0.1:1025 or <My_Tytn_II_name>:1025 work as well?

Posted by Francesco Peeters on 6/13/2008 3:00:00 AM

To all,
I wanted to know if everyone else has the same issue I have or if I am just missing something. On my T-Mobile DASH running Kavana 6.1 Vanilla ROM I have BBConnect 4.0.0.97 running (I did change the AKU to get it to connect) I have 1 BES profile and 3 BIS profiles setup everything runs great but on occasion (very frequently due to 4 email accounts) the BBConnect program opens up and shows the Owner Information screen which is populated or the BBConnect main screen I think click back and get to the email no problem. I just wanted to know if everyone else is dealing with this problem or if it has been addressed?

Posted by AlfredTV (email) on 6/13/2008 3:00:00 AM

Hey Francesco,

It sounds right. I don't know if the proxy is listening to localhost, ie. 127.0.0.1, but who knows, you can try and see. If <My_Tytn_II_name> is in your hosts registry, it will work, I don't think it gets updated automatically.

AlfredTV, thanks for the heads up, never experienced the issue, but haven't been using BBC for awhile.

Hi,

Just upgraded my orange Samsung i600 (aka blackjack!?) to WM6 and was wondering if someone can please advise the best version and way to go about installing Blackberry Connect on it?

I'm currently on orange (UK) using BIS and everything works ok on my blackberry 8820, but I would desperately like to use my i600 instead!

Thanks in advance.

*update*

just installed the latest version of BBC on the WM6 i600 but no luck whatsoever.

If someone can please suggest how I can get it to work, I would really appreciate it.

Regards

Posted by technics (email) on 6/14/2008 3:00:00 AM

"It sounds right. I don't know if the proxy is listening to localhost, ie. 127.0.0.1, but who knows, you can try and see."

So how does one handle this constant changing of IP? I can hardly go and manually change this everytime BBC reconnects?... :-o

"If <My_Tytn_II_name> is in your hosts registry, it will work, I don't think it gets updated automatically."

What do you mean by "your hosts registry"? (I am a WinMob n00b (always used PalmOS!), so forgive me if I am asking after something obvious!)

Posted by Francesco Peeters on 6/15/2008 3:00:00 AM

Technics,

Unfortunately, it will not work with i600, I haven't seen any success stories.

Francesco,

As far as I know, you get the same IP assigned through BBC. So you should be fine.

Similar to hosts file on a Windows machine, on a Windows Mobile box, the hosts file (a local DNS cache) is kept in the registry. See http://windowsmobilepro.blogspot.com/2006/04/etchosts-file-equivalent-in-windows.html for details.

Posted by Sems on 6/18/2008 3:00:00 AM

"As far as I know, you get the same IP assigned through BBC. So you should be fine."

AFAIK I am getting a new IP everytime it reconnects! :-/

As a matter of fact, a simple test confirms this:
Start:
120.182.207.130
Suspend/Resume:
120.182.213.138
Suspend/Resume:
120.182.213.144
etc.

However, I have since found out that "localhost" resolves to <My_Tytn_II_name> (ping localhost gives a reply from <My_Tytn_II_name>), and the netstat info shows 1025 listening on 0.0.0.0 (i.e. all IP adresses)...

Now all I need to do is find apps that actually support proxy settings! ;-)
(A proper proxyfier app sounds like a nice addition to the WinMob application range right about now! Or a version of OpenVPN that doesn't conflict with BBC...)

Posted by Francesco Peeters on 6/18/2008 3:00:00 AM

Weird, on my Rogers account I was getting same IP. It is good to know and great find for the community. Thanks for the update.

Posted by Sems on 6/18/2008 3:00:00 AM

In HTC_Polaris_UK's post:

O2 UK is now adopting XDA Orbit2 (Polaris) but not currently supporting BBconnect. I'll keep an eye open for updates and let you know.

I am in Germany using an XDA Orbit2 on O2. My new employer is telling me I need to go to a Blackberry Enterprise (assume this means BES, right?) using T-mobile. Will BB connect allow me to connect with the same functionality as with a Blackberry? I am assuming I won't have any issues using the Orbit2 on the t-mobile net.... How about security differences (e.g. the wipe function, etc)? I think my new IT guy will work with me, but I need to have solid footing before starting the conversation. Thanks!

P.S. the posts so far on this thread seem really solid - good stuff!

-mitchmann

Posted by mitchmann (email) on 6/21/2008 3:00:00 AM

Hey Mitchmann

Correct, they are talking about BES and most features of a Blackberry device is supported, including security features (remote wipe, etc). You can show him the user documentation if needed. Only thing majorly missing is while you can receive PIN messages, you cannot send any. Emails, calendar, notes, tasks, contacts work like a charm.

Posted by Sems on 6/21/2008 3:00:00 AM

Thanks for the patience on what must seem obvious questions! I just got my BB device today and I gotta say it cannot even compare to the UI on WM6, so I am putting on the hard sell. I will let you know how it goes.

Posted by mitchmann (email) on 6/26/2008 3:00:00 AM

Does anyone know of which BBC to use to a HTC TYTN II on the UK Vodafone Network. the device is using WM6.1. I have tried all of the above links and I just don't get any PIN. The WM5.0 files won't install (wrong OS) so now I am thinking of selling the PDA/Phone

Can anyone help please

FYI, just picked up the new Samsung Omnia (I900) here in Singapore and no joy with any of the Blackberry connect versions posted above. Will install, but PIN pending and cannot register. Local Samsung support says it is not supported yet (perhaps a glimmer of hope there).

I bought a Diamond and still hoping someone can guide me to install BBC into it, btw im from singapore too

Posted by davidwong (email) on 6/30/2008 3:00:00 AM

No problems Mitchmann :)

Matt, one thing I can suggest, is checking the xda-developers.com forums. There is many ROMs there available for Tytn II and works with BBC fine. You can give that a shot.

David, the install is pretty simple. Download the latest version, copy it to your device (or you can simply download via your device). Then install to the main memory and follow on screen info. If you need anything else, read the user guide.

Sir and Cosmin,

If I recall correctly, some people had success with Diamond and BB Connect. Check xda-developers.com forums for more info. Cosmin, all you need is a copy of the latest Blackberry Connect client, install it to the main memory and follow on screen instructions.

Posted by Sems on 7/3/2008 3:00:00 AM

Thank you... can you giv me a hint from where can i get a copy ...andwhat version to put?

Hint: Read the thread, all the links were in the original post (top of this page). Try .97, if it doesn't work, you can try different ones.

Posted by Sems on 7/5/2008 3:00:00 AM

Hi ES,

I also have the Samsung i900 and none of the BB Connect versions seem to work with it! Even after the registry changes as recommended by XDA forums, it still cannot register!
Hopefully, Samsung will support BB soon on this phone!

As a quick update (after all this time): using 127.0.0.1:1025 for the prox *does* work...

Unfortunately the app I am trying (openVPN) does not play nicely with the proxy (it issues a "CONNECT 1.2.3.4:443" request, to which the MDS replies with a "PROXY/1.0 500 MDS ERROR") :-(

If openVPN would work, I could use it to pass data over the MDS, but the CONNECT command seems to be a big no-no!

Great to see someone out there knows something about BBC! I've been trying to set it up on my Tilt (Kaiser) for a few days, and although AT&T claims they officially support it, no one seems to know much.

I'm having a weird problem that I haven't seen in any of these threads. I'm trying to set myself up with my company's BES (unknown version). Basically BBC installs fine on the handset, I see exactly what I'm supposed to see, I get a PIN etc, but when I tap the activation tab in BBC, enter my email and the password issued by my IT department, the activate and regenerate keys buttons are grayed out and stay that way, no matter what I do. I've tried .97, .84, and .92 of BBC.

I did try the Blackberry Connect Desktop for Windows Mobile, and that claims that it is doing what it's supposed to (it connects to the BES, recognizes my email account, etc), but no email comes through on the device. When I click the configure wireless handset button it does something, because it makes me enter a lock password (I assume this is due to IT policy).

I'm sure I did something really stupid but I can't figure out what it might have been. Any help you guys can provide would be very much appreciated!

Dan, when you do a wireless Enterprise Activation, make sure your device is not connected via USB. Also you can try to set your band to 2G/Edge, instead of 3G, in some issues it helps. On your desktop, make sure your Outlook is properly configured and connected via MAPI to your Exchange Server.

Also, you can give a shot .100, it worked great on my HTC Tytn II. (that was also answer for you Piotr, as I am using 6.1 OS.)

Finally, have your IT guys check BES logs, and see what's going on. Could be easily an issue on the BES itself.

Great job to help new users.
I tried version 4.0.0.67 in my P6300 (WM5) but it does not work:

- Today screen appears almost empty.
I tried other versions but during installation I see a message saying they are not for WM5.
Any idea what to do?
Has anybody succeeded with WM5?

Hello all,

I have just changed from WM6 to WM61. Before this big change I used to run BBC perfectly. But after the change BBC does not want to connect. The first time I had connection but the enterprise activation stopped and thereafter there hasn't been connection so activation is pending.

I have a HTC Tytn II and ave installed the latest BBC. I am also on BES however my IT department does not know whats wrong and do not have the time to look into it. Can anyone help me and suggest what settings I/my IT department should change?

The messages I get when trying to register to the network are:
1) Network Available
2) Data Tunnel Available
3) Not Connected.

I called my network supplier and they said everthing was working fine on their end...
(I tested my account by using a BlackBerry device and my account works flawlessly however, I would like to use my Tytn II...)

Many thanks in advance!

Fcastano,

What brand is the device, are you talking about HTC P6300? Most of the releases work fine with WM5, however success is dependent upon carrier, rom version, etc.

Lve0200,

Thanks for the heads up and sharing the success story.

Redscare,

All 4.x versions should be fine, make sure you downloaded the one for Smartphones and install it to main memory.

Remco,

The error you are receiving is a well known error. You are unable to successfully connect to the Blackberry.net APN, thus failing to acquire a proper PIN number. Are you using the stock ROM. Check the xda-developers.com forums, there is many tytn ii 6.1 roms there that work fine with BB

Pomodoro,

A successful connection is dependent on carrier, rom version numbers and device. There is success stories on HTC Diamond, (see above for lve0200's post for example). Maybe he can tell us his ROM version details and you can load that one to your unit.

Hello Sems,

Thanks for your quick response. I have tried several ROMS and several versions of BBC but no succes (yet).

I did have succes with the original WM6 Dutch version. The original WM61 English did not work. It did connect once, but it gave an error. I am currently using a ROM by Dutty's but I am willing to switch if BBC works!

Can anyone provide me with a configuration for BBC running on my HTC runnig WM61? I live in the Netherlands and are on the KPN network...

Thanks,

Ps I have also tried BBC 4.0.0.100 but no succes

Posted by Remco (email) on 8/5/2008 3:00:00 AM

Arslan, try a different version, just because it is the latest, it does not mean it will work on your device. I had an issue with .91 for example on my tytn ii, whereas .84 was just fine.

Remco, one good idea is to check xda-developers.com forums, there may be a solution there.

Dear Sems,

I think you can find newer versions for BB connect and desktop under this link.

http://direct.motorola.com/ENG/Blackberryconnect.asp?Country=GBR&language=ENG

If I understand it correctly, the newer versions will run better in terms of WM6.1 integration and will also provide Instant Messaging, but I might be wrong.

Thanks for the motorola link. Have tried last night but the version is for WM 6.1 Standard instead of Professional version, hence cannot be installed in my Omnia.

Is this the same file as those who mentioned in xda-developer forum? If so, I've tried it and when the device restarted after the install, it will freeze at the green screen (the starting screen that shows WM 6.1). Tried the 4.0.0.100 and it doesn't work. My omnia freezes at the green startup screen after reboot. Believe I'll have to wait for next version now ... ...

I checked my copy and one from Xda-developers, they are exactly same. If I find any newer versions, I'll let you know.

PIN ERROR?

This is how you can make your Tytn II using BlackBerry Connect receive a pin. Thanks go to:
address

1. Hard Reset (set up initial settings, connect to provider, its a total of two reboots iirc)
2. Change registry setting (HKLM\System\Versions Aku set to .0.4.2)
3. Soft Reset
4. Change Device ID to any value (Settings->System->About->Device ID)
5. Soft Reset
6. Install BBConnect (see the link above)
7. Installation reboots system
8. Disable 3G connection, force to use EDGE via wireless connection manager
9. Device receives PIN, activates, etc..
10. Enable 3G connection

I have been looking for the solution quite a while, but this really works! However I did not do step 8...

Dear Sems,
You are right. I have got an HTC P6300.
Can I understand that the SW should work for WM5 even if during installation I receive the message "this is not for this version?
I work with Movistar (Spanish operator). Has anybody succeded with WM5 and Movistar?
Should I contact with Movistar?
Thanks

I had the same symptoms in my Tilt with ROM 6.1 and BB Cconnect 4.0.0.100 as RedScare had back in July:

The messages I get when trying to register to the network are:
1) Network Available
2) Data Tunnel Available
3) Not Connected.

I fixed it by removing the SIM card and reinserting it. That rebooted the device and after that BB Connect was working.

Hi Sems,
I got some more info about my HTC P6300 (Panda).
ROM: 1.17.412.2
Rom date: 07/23/07
Radio: 1.02.00
Protocol: 1337.58P
ExtROM: 1.17.412.101

I continue reading different forums, and I have some more questions?
The success in getting the PIN depends on the device? depends on the WM version? Is it possible that for my P6300 there is not a valid BB connect?
Should I try to use an older version 2.1...
Thanks again

Dear Sems

As per HTC website, there is a Blackberry Connect version 4.0.0.103. Are you able to obtain a copy so that I can try on my Samsung i900 Omnia, please?

Hello
Here it is BB Connect version 103

Posted by Piotr on 9/3/2008 3:00:00 AM

FCastano,

Make sure you are installing Pocket PC version and into main memory. Also, older versions might work better for you.

The success of getting a PIN is dependent on carrier, if your carrier supports your device for BB Connect, OS version and software version.

You can try 2.1 but it has a lot less features.

Jose, thanks for the tip.

Piotr, thanks for the share.

Anyone try Blackberry Connect version 4.0.0.103
on the HTC touch pro or Samsung Omnia, please tell us results

Thanks

I tried 4.0.0.103 on the Omnia , the good Thing: It does not crash on the Bootscreen anymore, but bad on the other Hand: Still no PIN is generated.

Maybe someone else had success with that on the Omnia.

Dear Sems,
Thanks once again for your support.
I know (I have seen) one office colleague that has succeeded with BB connect (same operator Movistar, same BES contract, etc as myself), but he is using another HTC PDA, with WM6.
His point is that also the PDA model, the WM version and ROM version are key, because in the past he tried a different one and he was not able to get the pin and this time it has been really automatic.
If this is the case, does it make sense to test BBconnect verion after version just in case? I really do not know what to do.
By the way where can I find 2.1 version? I tried different links but now the point to newer versions?
And finally is there any kind of "success table" that reflects all cases (I mean PDA model, OS, ROM version and operator) that have succeded? This could help to solve the problems found.
Thanks once again.

Posted by fcastano (email) on 9/5/2008 3:00:00 AM

It makes sense, because newer version may support your device. You can find 2.1 possibly from carriers, I believe Vodafone Germany has it on their site. I haven't seen any such table unfortunately.

And after that, I have to install BB connect 103, directly or should I do all the tricks (changes in registry, etc) that people have to do (as can be seen in this threat?

no, i don´t know p6300...
what i wanna tell is, that bbconnect x.103 works with wm6.1, which former versions did not without the tricky things. 103 you can install (if your device is supported) and it works without any trick-track. i tried it on my tytn II with many original and cooked roms.

Posted by Awni (email) on 9/13/2008 3:00:00 AM

Arslan, have you registered your device to your carrier's Blackberry Internet Service? The Internet Browser icon should appear after that.

F Peeters, I haven't heard about it for a long time. I think RIM is not focusing on it, rather focusing on new device releases these days, along with 4.5, 4.6 and 4.7 OS releases for different devices.

Utensil, I used mine over 4 months on Kaiser. But to be honest, it boils mostly down to your carrier. Are they officially supporting BB Connect?

Awni, if the apps can use a proxy server, you should be able to make them work. Search word proxy on this page, there are some interesting comments.

Posted by Sems on 9/15/2008 3:00:00 AM

Why is that we dont get to know what new features are introduced or what bugs got fixed moving from one version to another version of Blackberry Connect 4 software?. I have been desperately trying to figure out what are the differences, new features and fixes from 4.0.0.97 moving to 4.0.0.100 but to my dismay, I could not find that information anywhere.

I finally have the BlackBerry Unlimited Plan from ATT on my Tilt working with BlackBerry Connect. Unfortunately, aside from mail and the BB browser, I can't seem to get any other apps to work through the Blackberry APN, and it appears that ATT is charge me data usage for using the wap APN.

Any suggestions on how to get things like Remote Desktop working through BBC only?

Thanks!

Posted by Kelly (email) on 9/16/2008 3:00:00 AM

officially the operators in U.A.E don't support bbconnect, in fact I was told I would be charged extra for using the data service on a non black berry phone which turned out to be false.

as far as I can tell the bbconnect software makes your phone appear to be a blackberry to the operator, however I think rim can still tell the model number during the pin aquisition so any models that haven't been licensed are not given a pin.

Also the software on the phone provides a specific browser (which piggy backs on IE) that packages the web content and sends it in encrypted fashion. This is why ordinary internet apps do not work on the blackberry plans(unless the operator has allowed the Access point to serve data openly on the bb plan)

Again I am not sure if this is how it works but is the best I can figure so far.

Guys

Thanks for the update

Sems
I searched for proxy and read every comment none of them helped, I simply wasn't able to get connected sometimes, and if I did other apps won't recognize the connection.

utensil
You probably right, as far as I found out, BBC on HTC Diamond will allow only BB Browser and Push email to work, other than that any other application won't recognize the encryption. By the way don't every believe a sells man unless he is a technical person because they will simply tell you stuff just to make you buy a product

Unless someone suggest a different idea

Posted by Awni (email) on 9/18/2008 3:00:00 AM

radkrish, unfortunately neither RIM nor carriers release that info. I looked for it so many times.

Kelly, some apps will recognize the BB Connect connection, some won't. I don't recall any proxy settings for Remote Desktop, but if any of your other apps has it, check the comments on this thread to how to make it work.

Utensil, most of your observations are correct. The Blackberry Browser (or Internet Browser, depending on whether you use BES or BIS) links force IE to use a special proxy server. There is some very good comments on this in this page.

Darin, are you using BIS or BES?

Awni, does your carrier charge extra if you use their regular Internet APN? If not, you have two options:

1. Some devices will allow connections to multiple APNs (it is a part of WM 6), if your device does, you can connect both the internet and blackberry.net apns at the same time and your apps will use proper one accordingly.

2. If your device is not supporting multiple APN connections, you can connect to the internet APN whenever you need it. Blackberry service will suspend and it will resume as soon as you disconnect from internet APN.

I have been using BB Connect successfully with my HTC Elfin for the last year. However from time to time something very annoying happens with the Blackberry Browser so it no longer works and displays a warning message saying: “The browser was unable to contact the Blackberry application, please try again later”. I can not solve it except with a hard reset and ulterior installation of the BBC cab. Do you know ay solution for this?.

It is important for me as I use the BB Browser instead of PIE as the data volume transferred while surfing the web is included in my BB plan (BES).

Posted by Thai (email) on 10/1/2008 3:00:00 AM

Shane,

It sounds like the encryption keys are corrupt. You can try either having your peer keys sent by your BES admin or redo Enterprise Activation.

Lisa,

Your BES admin is partially correct. Blackberry COnnect does support IT Policy along with remote wipe and other security features. Features supported vary by device.

See:

http://www.starhub.com/portal/site/StarHub/menuitem.b917f580812d7209aa494b608324a5a0/?vgnextoid=d5ecc8c6952e0110VgnVCM100000474114acRCRD

Also Blackberry Knowledge Base contains some articles on the subject

Shane,

Quick GPS requires a direct Internet connection. You can use Wifi or connect to your carrier's regular Internet APN.

Vintila,

When the issue happens, did you retry Enterprise Activation or having the service books from your BES server resent?

Mateja,

Unfortunately, the links here are for GSM devices. You'll have to get a CDMA version supported by Telus from them. Also make sure, your account is BB enabled. Some support agents may be totally clueless on this.

Thai,

You can always try, I used 100 and 103 on Tytn II. If it does not work, you can uninstall and install back the working version.

Posted by Jacques (email) on 10/8/2008 3:00:00 AM

Vintila,

1. Your BES admin can use the Blackberry Manager interface and have those service books sent to you again.

2. For you to be able to do a wireless activation, your BES admin needs to setup an activation password first. Or like you are doing, you can activate via Desktop.

Jacques,

I have a friend who tried many options and so far he had no luck either.

I have a weird situation, and I wonder if anybody has seen this... (Try finding this one using Google! *SIGH*)

I have a HTC Kaiser, running BBC 4.0.0.100 (but also tried with .92), and it connects with the BES server just fine...
However once I activate/register it to the BES, it connects, exchanges the service books, and once it starts syncing, BBMAIN.EXE dies!
Before we used Lotus Notes with a hosted BES server, and all was fine
Now we use Exchange with an in-house BES server.

I have already done a hard-reset on the phone, and reinstalled BBC, but no dice: It keeps crashing after it receives one or two mails at best, sometimes before that...
(PS: I did have to change the AKU to .0.4.2, or it would not even stay connected!)

ANY help would be appreciated!

Posted by F Peeters on 10/8/2008 3:00:00 AM

And now I also get an "Error: Key Validation Failed" error when I try to to Ent.Act.

*sighs*
I am happy to get rid of Notes, but this is the bigger headache of the two!!!

I have problem with BB connect 4.0.0.100 also did try .90, I get as many here, pin pending and no IP, I have checked with my service provider and the blackberry service is on my number, The device that is HTC touch Crusie, connects and then after 3-5 seconds disconnects, It is just using EDGE. I´m wondering if I have to do something on the BES server to allow this device or is there something else that is causing this problem? The pin, does it come from the service provider or the BES server?

Regards
Stefan

Posted by Sthf on 10/10/2008 3:00:00 AM

Check what value is in your registry for AKU. It should be .0.4.2

HKLM\System\Versions\AKU key, type String, change to .0.4.2

Then soft-reset and reinstall BBC

Posted by F Peeters on 10/11/2008 3:00:00 AM

Thanks for the reply,

Did this, but no luck, still just get connection for few sec and ip, then disconnects :(

Is there anything I need to do on the BES server to allow this device type or is that something the service provider?

Posted by F Peeters on 10/13/2008 3:00:00 AM

F Peeters,

Which version of BES are you running, do you know? I have never seen the issue you are having. Did you try and see if a different ROM on Kaiser makes any difference? Any other apps running at the same time? I'll see if I can dug up some more info.

Sthf, PIN number is generated by the Blackberry Network, it has nothing to do with BES. At the point where PIN number is generated, you have not yet touched your BES server (as you can imagine, the software has no idea what your email address is or where your BES is located). The success depends upon OS version, carrier and device.

Posted by Sems on 10/14/2008 3:00:00 AM

not sure on the BES version...

Tried 2 different roms, with the same result...

Having struggled to get my Diamond going with BlackBerry Connect, I have finally succeeded.
The combination of settings which work for me are:
Device name = Touch_Diamond
Registry = HKLocalMachine/System/Version/Aku = .1.2.3
BlackBerry Connect = 4.0.0103

It turns out that for me, the biggest problem was my carrier. They had failed to set my network setting correctly. The way I tested this was to put my SIM in a colleague's BlackBerry device. When I did this, BB was not working. BUT when I put his SIM in my HTC, I got a connection and a PIN.

Thanks to the owner of this site; it is a quite invaluable resource.

Posted by Simon on 10/25/2008 3:00:00 AM

Kumar, Enterprise activation is trying to prepopulate your email messages. You can try to decrease the number of days or total number of items to initially sync on your BES server.

Marzo, I haven't seen anyone successfully using BBC on a I900. You can try different versions, but I am not too hopeful.

Simon, you are most welcome. My pleasure :), I guess I should download and put up .103, it has been around for a while.

I changed AKU= .1.2.3 and Device name= Touch_Diamond, but the error is the same: I can not receive the PIN.

How does the BB servers detect the device name to allow connection, onñy by the Device name? I really do not know what else I can do.
Any other sugestion?
Thanks in advance

FCastano, it is a matter of device name, OS version and carrier, afaik. I have seen people failing same everything, only a difference in carrier. I have seen people failing with OS/ROM version difference. It is a tricky situation.

Posted by Sems on 11/3/2008 3:00:00 AM

Sems, Thanks once again for your feedback. It is really frustrating, You never know if you are only one bit far from the solution or it is really impossible to connect with your PDA.

any more clue on the BB connect and HTC touch pro...?

i changed my rom to ROMeOS 1.3 and upgraded radio as well.. no change ... cannot connect to the BB service and still no connection via the BB desktop software.. ... i am really getting frustrated

Posted by Cedric (email) on 11/4/2008 3:00:00 AM

Sems,

On the BBmain.exe dying issue I have (posts 10/13-10/15):

I just learned that we are using Blackberry Server 4.1 Sp6.
(Does that help in finding a solution?...)

Posted by F Peeters on 11/4/2008 3:00:00 AM

Thanks SEMS for the input.

I tried reducing my mail box so as to have only one week of mails (~500). Still the problem persists.

In another response, you have suggested about possibility of Service Book corruption. Let me get hold of my IT guy & will send it across.

The problem is persistent with other BBC (1.0.0.91, 97) also. As soon as it is configured from desktop, the GPRS link & BB-icon goes down. If I restart the service "BlackberrySecurity(BBD0:)", BBC connect & fails again.

Hello, I did test BB .100 on HTC TOUCH, perfect.
Tonight, I test BB .103 on HTC TOUCH PRO, I let you know. Thanks to the owner of this website, very efficient. A nice community !

Posted by Cormoran22 (email) on 11/5/2008 3:00:00 AM

Hi all, just for information: I'm running now since some days BB.103 on my HTC Touch Pro without any problems (only using mail and calendar sync). No modifications on the original HTC ROM.
Regards

Hi you all,
Thank you very much for the information.
I'm about to buy an HTC Touch Pro, the only thing I'm not quit sure about is that it is 100% compatible with Blackberry.
Actually I'm a BB user (BIS) and as far as a read it is posible to hace a HTC phone runnig with connect software "emulating" a blackberry device, but as more as I read, as more confuse I'm.
So, could anybody tell it the Touch Pro works with BB plataform.

Thank you very much in advance to anyone.

Nacho.
PS: I'm assuming that the device has WM 6.1 Pro and using the latest version for BB Connect 103.

Posted by Nacho (email) on 11/7/2008 3:00:00 AM

hello again. I did install BBC .103 ont HTC TOUCH PRO, that is perfect.
AKP, that 's fine, I did the same.
Bye

Hello,

I use a Sony Ericsson XPERIA with WM6.1
I have the software installed version 4.0.0.103. The installation was completed without error but I get no lasting BlackBerry connection. The connection is only briefly each place. What can the error be?

Posted by wiesel (email) on 11/8/2008 3:00:00 AM

Fcastano, I wish RIM would start producing some more knowledge base articles and documentation. But they prefer to work with carriers directly, leaving end users unsupported.

Cedric, did you check xda-developers.com? Did you try different software versions? How about editing registry, changing AKU version?

F Peeters, can't find anything on it. Did you try .103 version of BBC?

Kumar, your IT guys can also adjust the prepopulation amounts on BES as well.

Cormoran22, thanks for the comments :)

akp, thanks for the results, will come handy.

wiesel, please read the whole thread. Successfully running Blackberry connect is not only dependant on Blackberry Connect version, but also carrier, device and OS version as well. Some devices, like Samsung ones, will not work at all.

Planning to get an HTC Touch Pro with Sprint and would like to connect to our corporate BES server. Does .103 of Blackberry Connect work with Sprint and the Touch Pro without modification?
Who is having success and who is having problems?

Hi All,
let me explain my problem. I have HTC touch dual (also known as HTC Niki), WM 6 Prof, ROM 1.31.405.09. I am trying to install bb connect (version 0.92,94,97,100,103) on this device but without success. Everything looks fine - installation and configuration by blackberry connect dektops. But when I try to use "Register now" I obtain the IP address only for a while and then I can see "No connection" (no IP address). What could be wrong? I tried hard and soft reset but without success.
Thx Petr

Posted by Petr (email) on 11/13/2008 3:00:00 AM

Brian, I haven't seen any success stories on X1. Like I said many times in the comments above, it is dependant on OS Version, carrier, device model and software version. If you don't have the right set, it will not work.

Darin, there is no release logs, so God knows. :)

BigDog, most of the downloads above is for GSM devices. You might want to talk with Sprint to see if they provide Blackberry Connect for their devices.

Cliford, after you run the app for the first time (make sure to install main memory), based on your IMEI number, it will generate the PIN.

Petr, could be an issue anywhere, as success depends on OS Version, carrier, device model and software version. You can try a different ROM, or try editing your AKU registry.

scusate se scrivo in italiano, ma c'è una versione del BB Connect che funziona sull htc HD Blackstone.!!!!
il mio ha il brand Tim,

Posted by piero on 11/13/2008 3:00:00 AM

Sems,

now my HTC touch dual works with bb connect fine. All I have to do was mentioned here in this discussion before. So my thanks are going to "Remco". BTW - I am using the new version of ROM with wm 6.1, so it is not true that wm 6.1 is not compatible with bb connect.
Petr

See the rigt solution below:

(HTC Tytn II, BBC 4.0.0.97, KPN network)

HI All,
I am a early adopter of the SonyEricsson Xperia X1, my carrier is Swisscom. Up til now none of the Blackberry Connect worked for me (4.0.0.103 nor 4.0.0.97). Similar to others experience, the BB Connect installs fine, after reboot it connects just fine for 1 time, for 1 second, giving me a IP adress starting with 10.xx.xx . After that the IPAddress is whipped out and the PIN says "PIN Pending". Until now there is NO package from Swisscom with BB Connect, so I assume I cannot use BB Service for a while.
My old SE P1i, picks up everything just fine.. so I assume Swisscom has setup everything correctly. (their Support says "Maybe Google it.." which I did..)

Is there still the thought valid, that the BB Connect will Check OS, ROM, Devicetype of the Phone and just refuses to give services, though Blackberry services are setup fine (running smoothly with SE P1i)..

your input is appreciated.. Maybe I send some Chocolate for a working solution ?? thx Eric

Hi
Just to confirm
BB Connect Version .103 is working on my HTC Touch HD !!!!
This is cool

Posted by Piotr on 11/15/2008 3:00:00 AM

version .103 on Touch HD is no longer working . I had PIN was in a middle of synchronization and connection was stopped , i don't know why

Posted by Piotr on 11/15/2008 3:00:00 AM

Thanks for the feedback Petr, glad all is well.

Eric, your assumption is right, it will check device type, OS/AKU version, device ID and carrier and will/will not assign a PIN accordingly.

Piotr, are you getting any error messages?

Posted by Sems on 11/15/2008 3:00:00 AM

Hi Sems
No, no error messages, nothing. I simply lost connection and now PIN is pending

Posted by Piotr on 11/16/2008 3:00:00 AM

Thanks for the BBerry Connect file - It is working great on my AT&T Fuze with no issues!

Posted by t-bone on 11/17/2008 3:00:00 AM

I've also tried .103 on my Touch HD. I'm also on Swisscom and can confirm that it indeed doesn't work.
I also got an IP after the first reboot but since then it stopped connecting.

Apart from that, trying to remove the blackberry connect client totally screwed up the Touch HD and I had to do a hard reset to get things working again :-/

Blackberry connect - Works for 3 sec...

Hi,

I have used BB Connect on my HTC Nike previously without problem. I have decided to reinstall my PPC. This is what I did:

-Hard reset
-Install BB Client
-BB client registered itself on the network (icon showed 4 little thingies in the corner and I have received an email to my system folder stating that registration was successful) - This state is stable. Connected status stays forever even after resets etc
-I have restarted PPC
-I have connected it to the desktop, waited for syncronization
-I have started BB desktop application and configured wireless device (successful)
-Device screen is locked automatically and prompted me for a password
-I have entered password and device became unlocked, but BB Client was not working

If I reset device and enter password fast enough I can see the client connecting. It shows connected state for a few seconds (If i have new mail it arrives to the phone) but after that the connection status icon changes on the taskbar and the arrows disappear) I can't enter to BB client setup any more (by clicking on icon) and the client is not working.

If I restart BBSecurity service the client connects again but again for a few seconds...

What should I do? Please help. I'm getting really frustrated... It was working for months. I'm using the same client, the same desktop application, the same desktop...

Dear Dawiz, I'm also with Swisscom in Switzerland currently using Blackberry Connect (BBC)with my HTC TyTn II. My decision to upgrade to the Touch HD depends exclusively on whether it can run the BBC. Please keep me posted on your efforts. Thank you.

Hi I have a HTC touch cruise and want to get it to work with BB Connect. Can anyone tell me what version i should download. Also anyone give me basic instructions for setting up the BB connect.

Thanks

I'm starting to get the feeling that with the Storm being out, RIM isn't very keen on allowing other touch-screen devices on the network :-/

Posted by dawiz on 11/19/2008 3:00:00 AM

Hello. I am trying BBC on new HTC S740 but seems not working. Which version do you recommand ? It is a Windows Standard 6.1.

Hello,
Please can someone tell me exactly how to get the 103 cab file on to the HTC tough HD so I can use if with BB Connect - I am not that familiarwith how to get the cab files on the phone Etc...
Thanks
Adam

Posted by Adam (email) on 11/21/2008 3:00:00 AM

Piotr, you can try a hard reset and reinstall, but i am not too hopeful.

T-Bone, thanks for the feedback.

Andrew, did you try to do a wireless enterprise activation? Can you check the BES server logs?

Mark, your success depends upon carrier and OS/Rom version. Try downloading the latest, and give it a shot. You can grab the download the documentation at http://sems.org/content/download/bbc/BlackBerry_Connect_4.0_ppc_user_guide_english.pdf

Dawiz, for RIM it was always their hardware first. They said a new Blackberry Connect replacement was coming out, that will give a total Blackberry experience. That was 18 months ago. With that said, there is still updates to Blackberry Connect, so I am not that pessimistic.

Cormoran22, try different versions, not necessarily the latest always works. For some devices I had, i had to use older versions.

Adam, I suggest reading your phone's documentation. First, which OS are you using on the desktop? Both Active Sync and Windows Mobile Device Managerhas options to copy files to the phone.

Posted by Sems on 11/22/2008 3:00:00 AM

Just to add some detail about the HTC Touch HD on ATT, I have tried every version listed above and never got a PIN. I also tried the version number change in the reistry to no avail.

Posted by Michael (email) on 11/23/2008 3:00:00 AM

Hello Sems. No Success. I have tried all version of BBC on my new HTC S740 (Rose) and I have always the same result : it sees the network, open the datas funel, and then disconnect from the BB network (even when I tried to stop 3G connection). And then, no chance to register. For info, I have no problem at all with HTC TOUCH PRO.

Posted by cormoran22 on 11/24/2008 3:00:00 AM

Cormoran22, you can try to change the device name and then AKU version in registry and see if that helps (I helped many users). Another option is to try a different ROM, if possible.

Posted by Sems on 11/25/2008 3:00:00 AM

Just posted the download location on XDA Developers for 1.0.0.104 for those in need of it - Have tested with my Touch HD but still no success..... Sigh.

Anyway - here's the thread at XDA Dev >>HERE<<

and heres a direct download link >>HERE<<

Hope you guys find this helpfull from your friends at XDA Developers.....

Hello Sems. Do you know where I can change the device name and the AKU version in my mobile ? Also, where can I get an another ROM version ? I try and let you know. As this device is quite new, I should probably wait a little bit for a new BBC version. Last question : do you accept donation and if yes, where shall I click for it ?

Posted by cormoran22 on 11/26/2008 3:00:00 AM

Thanks Blob8me. I'll update the page shortly. And I think all the people on this page appreciates our friends at xda-developers.com. It is my first reference point :)

Cormoran22, all the info was on this page already :)

Change device ID, from Start -> Settings -> System -> About -> Device ID

Here you can try different names, some people had success with HTC_P3450. Or use the same name from your Touch Pro.

To edit AKU, install a registry editor, such as Resco (www.resco-net.com) or Total Commander (www.ghisler.com). Then edit

HKLM\System\Versions\AKU key, change whatever in there (like .0.0.3) to .0.4.2 (or compare it with your Touch Pro and put the same value)

As for the donations, I haven't put up any links but if you'd like to send anyting you can use Paypal and send it to sems@sems.org.

Posted by Sems on 11/27/2008 3:00:00 AM

Blob8me your links dont work. Can you upload the 104 version somewhere and relink? Youcan even email directly to me if you have the time :-)

Posted by Michael (email) on 11/27/2008 3:00:00 AM

I'll post it to the front page momentarily.
