How to setup Blackberry Connect 4 with HTC P3600
Now this is great news. Thanks to my fellow reader, John Duff, I was able to get Blackberry Connect 4.0 running fine on my HTC P3600 (aka Trinity).
Here is the steps involved:
1. Install Blackberry Connect 2.1.2.54 (I downloaded it for VPA Compact III on Vodafone website - http://support.vodafone.de/index_l3_2z.html#vpacompactiii). Run the Blackberry control panel app. I did not select Calendar to sync. Finished first time run.
2. Using Blackberry Connect Desktop for Windows Mobile 4.0, I provisioned the BES account to the device.
3. Disconnected the device and it connected to Blackberry APN fine. Sent a test message, it arrived.
4. Hard reset the unit. You can choose not to, but I prefer a clean install.
5. Install Blackberry Connect 4.0 client, if you need the files, you can get it at http://www.sems.org/entry.asp?ENTRY_ID=225.
5. Run the Blackberry control panel app on the device once again, it will do its setup and reboot.
6. Again, using Desktop client (at this point you can also use Wireless Activation), provision the BES account to the device.
7. Voila, everything works.

Yes, I managed to get 4.0 running last week on my trinity using the same way. After v2.1 got a connection it worked also with v4.0 - for whatever reason.
After an OS upgrade to a newer WM5 version I started with v4.0 again ... and the connect was not possible. The next try with v2.1 failed also. So I left my Trinity as it was for the weekend, trying sometimes a connect - no success. Monday morning I took a look at the connection state - and had a line again. Terribly confusing.
However, v4.0 is almost not usable for its instability on my device. Even after a hard reset with no other software installed at all my Trinity freezes latest after 30 minutes.
For the moment I am happy with v2.1 running and will do some other tests with v4.0 when I get more messages of success.

4.0 is more designed for WM6 and I didn't have any stability issues on my Trinity running WM6 so far (knock on wood ;))

Installed BB connect 4.0 , successfully , but when going to fido.blackberry.com and tried to enter the PIN and IMEI i see on the status screen
getting a message "Please check your PIN and IMEI. The information you enter is incorrect"
device pin: ###AA###
IMEI: 15 digits
Is the PIN generated on my bb connect from my ppc wrong ?
so i decided uninstalled BB connect 4.0 and tried 2.1 , but the now both CAB's will not install on the phone, it goes thru the sequence as if i'm trying to uninstall it, i.e asking if i want to save the settings, and never re-installs
HELP?

Hey.
I get stuck at stage 2. All i get is an error msg saying "The account is not provisioned properly on the server................." Then cloes.
Plz help. Have spent over 5 hrs trying to get it to bloody work.

Daryk,
Did you provide your IMEI number to Fido? Fido's site goes throught their database, cannot find your IMEI and fails. PIN on a Blackberry Connect client is 8 digits and usually starts with 6. If you are familiar with registry, you can try to clean Blackberry related entries. If not, you'll probably need to do a hard reset.
Rob, the error you are getting is related to Blackberry Enterprise Server. Please contact your server admin and have them reprovision your account.

phoned Fido ,the csr i spoke to says they won't support any non-fido phones. i argued and said all i need was my imei added to the system. Gave her my PIN 6##CA## and IMEI, and she said she would ask again. TEch dept says the website not working properly and i should try again, still today it doesnt work, its been 24hrs. Should i go with ROgers instead?

I did not much experiment with BIS via Blackberry Connect, so I can't help much there. One thing you can try is to use the Blackberry Connect client to activate BIS (see the manuals for 2.1 and 4.0, both contain valuable info).

Added BB 4.0 to T-mobile Dash with BIS account from T-mobile. It works fine but on BIS site, it only allows me to configure 3 e-mails. Says device only supports 3 e-mail configurations???
I have the Dash with Windows Mobile 6.0. Anyone have same problem?...when I change the device on my account i.e's PIN and IMEI to my old Blackberry it allows me to add more email accounts.
Anyone have an idea what the prob maybe??

To my knowledge, it is a limitation on the Blackberry Connect software. Blackberry knowledge base used to have articles on it.

ok I think it's the BES software that's limited, is there a BB Connect version available for BIS service?
Posted by Patrick (email) on 6/30/2007 3:00:00 AM
It is not a limitation of BES, BES only supports 1 Exchange/Lotus/Novell account in any device including Blackberry handhelds. Both 2.1 and 4.0 version of Blackberry Connect supports BIS.
It is the limitation of the Blackberry Connect on Windows Mobile.

update:
after installing the latest BBC4.0.0.90 cab on the p3600
i am up and running now on FIDO

Thanks for the update. Hope it will last. I had 4.0.0.90 working on Tytn II for several hours, then it wouldn't work. Funny thing, after I put the sim back into a BB 8800 and waited 10 minutes, the bb connect started to work again.
