Im curious how you got the service books to your phone. T-Mobile said the only thing they had was the "Provisioning." The "BlackBerry" folder on my start menu only has "Blackberry Security" and "Lock Device" icons. How can I get the other icons or service books? Thanks very much in advance.

Posted by Andrew (email) on 6/11/2007 3:00:00 AM

Once you have a BES enabled account (T-Mobile has BIS and BES enabled account types), all you have to do is on the BES server add your user, set an activation password, then in Blackberry client, go to Activation and enter your email address and activation password to complete wireless activation. You can also use the Blackberry Desktop Client for Windows Mobile to activate it wired.

hey does black berry chat work on this?

Posted by rod (email) on 6/12/2007 3:00:00 AM

Blackberry Chat is not a part of Blackberry Connect Client. So it won't work.

Posted by Sems on 6/12/2007 3:00:00 AM

Oh, I only have BlackBerry Internet Service through T-Mobile. I don't have Enterprise Server. Is that why I only get the two icons? When I try to put an email on the activation screen, the option that says "Activate" is grey and won't let me click on it.

Posted by Andrew (email) on 6/12/2007 3:00:00 AM

That's correct. But, once you activate your BIS account on the device, you should have the Internet Browser icon.

The Activate option is for BES accounts. For BIS use the Email Settings icon.

Posted by Sems on 6/12/2007 3:00:00 AM

If I download this from my T-Mobile Wing and request to be set up on my companies BES who specifically chooses AT&T for Blackberry devices, will this work on my Wing if I copy the settings?

Posted by John (email) on 6/27/2007 3:00:00 AM

On a BES server you can use what is called "Enterprise Policy" and allow activation to only certain devices or PIN numbers. If your company uses this feature, you will not be able to activate your Wing on your company's BES server. However, many companies allow their users to use any Blackberry or Blackberry Connect device. You can simply try and see.

Posted by Sems on 6/27/2007 3:00:00 AM

Thank you Sems,

I called my IT folks.... They "claim" I can do this, but a network request needs to be put through.

However, if I proceed, they will not accept "direct billing" to the company since I am not using the preferred carrier.

But if I am monthly expensing the UNLIMITED data plan with my company, it should not matter (in other words, as long as it works, I am happy).

Would I need to switch from the T-Mobile unlimited internet plan to the Blackberry add-on?

Posted by John (email) on 6/27/2007 3:00:00 AM

I am not that much familiar with T-Mobile's data plans, but make sure to get the Blackberry plan which includes access to BES, as I know as a fact they have two separate plans, one for BIS, one for BES. We had many customers who couldn't activate on our BES server, because their T-Mobile plan removed Enterprise Activation.

Posted by Sems on 6/27/2007 3:00:00 AM

ok in the bb folder i just have the two lock settings, and when i try to enter a email address its grey. as far as i know im on bis. active sync wont work it says i need a default email. what am i doing wrong?

Posted by rody (email) on 7/10/2007 3:00:00 AM

oh yea under the email settings it says email settings unavailable? im lost..

Posted by rody (email) on 7/10/2007 3:00:00 AM

Rody, I believe you'll need to go to your provider's site, change your BIS account to reflect your IMEI and PIN numbers first, then send the service books to the device. Read the manual for more info.

Does the BB Connect 4.0 work for HTC Touch.
Has anybody tried it and does it work.

Posted by Ajey (email) on 7/20/2007 3:00:00 AM

I had a friend in Turkey and he successfully did it with a Touch. It is a hit and miss, as the BBC 4.0 relies on certain ROM versions and carriers to work.

I just bought an att 8525. Any ideas IF this will work for me, and HOW I get it to work. I already have an unlimited data plan. Can't imagine paying more for this service, but maybe I should.

All help great appreciated.

Posted by Fred (email) on 7/23/2007 3:00:00 AM

There are many 8525 users using Blackberry Connect 4.0 on AT&T, according to comments to my other threads.

Make sure you have Blackberry or Blackberry Connect enabled on your plan, then install the BBC 4.0 to your device and follow on screen instructions. The installation manual also helps.

Posted by Sems on 7/24/2007 3:00:00 AM

Well Sems,

How do I check if I have blackberry on my account, and after 900 minutes and unlimited data, do I need to pay for blackberry too?

Otherwise, I can do the download.

Thanks for the reply

Posted by Fred (email) on 7/24/2007 3:00:00 AM

Simply call the customer support, and ask if you have Blackberry or Blackberry Connect enabled on this account. Or check your latest bill.

Posted by Sems on 7/25/2007 3:00:00 AM

Ok, I called, and I don't have blackberry connect Service.

But, I've got a lot more questions regarding doing this on an 8525. Can someone who's done this, email me? Carrier att, phone 8525.

What I want to know is what are the downsides to trying this. When I called customer support, they said, that I'd have to give up my current unlimited data plan, and get a blackberry connect plan. But, other folks I know with blackberry's, have horrible internet connections. The beauty of the 8525, is its 3G data connection, and the speed of IE opening. I don't want to give all that up. Nor do I want to give up, my hotmail access, or the like.

So, I'm asking for an email from someone who's actually done this, so that I can understand what I'd be giving up.

Oh yes, att customer support, said they don't support the blackberry software on these devices. Only some nokia. For whatever that is worth.

Thanks again.

Posted by Fred (email) on 7/26/2007 3:00:00 AM

I have not used it on AT&T network, but I have used it with a HTC Tytn (same as 8525) on Rogers. For me it was best of both worlds, 3G Blackberry speed, MDS access to our corp network, and still can run IE and other apps.

The only thing missing was pin messaging (incoming works, you can't send).

Here is two recommendations:

1. Read the manual for BBC 4.0. It has plenty of good info.

2. Check the Hermes forums on forum.xda-developers.com. There is many Blackberry connect users there, using 8525. They might provide you more info from their experience.

Posted by Mahmoud (email) on 8/3/2007 3:00:00 AM

If your device is not supported by your carrier, there is not much you can do. That's the major issue people are having with different devices and Blackberry Connect 4.0. RIM is checking your carrier, device type, rom version and if it is not allowed, it will be blocked.

Posted by Sems on 8/5/2007 3:00:00 AM

Hi.I am using the ASUS P525, a windows mobile 5 operating system. I have managed to load the software and have the services activates from the carrier's end. Still it does not show the status of being connected.
Is there any other possible thing that needs to be done in order to get these services activated

Posted by Aditya Kumar (email) on 8/5/2007 3:00:00 AM

Aditya, I don't want to be rude, but if you'd kindly read the thread, you'd see what your issue is (especially the comment just before yours).

Hi again,

just wondering if someone can confirm if bb connect will work with windows mobile 2003 CE. I have HP Ipaq HW6515 and would like to have the bb connect tried the 2.1 but it won't install not compatible with the OS.

Thanks,

Posted by Moe (email) on 8/5/2007 3:00:00 AM

Hello everyone,

I have been following the BBC for some time now. I just upgraded to the 8525 and installed the new ROM (2.15) from ATT. I got all installed BBC 4.0 in PC and on my 8525.

It has installed fine, got my PIN, got my IP. BBC Desktop connect to 8525 via USB and got new keys. All is okay except, this is what happens:

1) I get an IP check status and says Network Available
2) Then it says Data Tunnel Available
3) Then it says Not Connected.

What am I doing wrong?

Posted by JustHermie on 8/6/2007 3:00:00 AM

Hey Moe,

I have just re-read the KB article, 2.0 is required for WM 2003. See here

I must have misread 2.0 as 2.1. Apparently 1.2 and 2.0 works with WM2003, 2.1 and 4.0 requires WM5 or better.

Sorry for misinformation on the earlier comments :(

JustHermie,

Have you tried to contact ATT? Is Blackberry Connect service active under your account?

Posted by Pdm (email) on 9/11/2007 3:00:00 AM

What do you mean by my files block the machine? Block what? Blackberry Connect 4.0 works on a combination of carrier/device/rom versions. So your carrier/device/rom version may not be supported.

If you have downloaded the cab file, simply copy the file to your device via ActiveSync or if you have a memory card using a card reader. Then on the device using the File Explorer, run the cab.

Posted by Sems on 10/1/2007 3:00:00 AM

Hello Sems,

You seem to put a lot of time & effort into this, so thank you in advance!

I have a Treo 750v running WM6 and the BBC 4.0.0.90. Install is clean and works, yet there is no connection available and little I do seems to help!

Has anyone managed to get this combination 750v & BBC4 working yet? The previous version on WM5 & BBC2.x worked fine.

Am operating on BES - almost latest version 4.x.

Posted by Eoin (email) on 10/5/2007 3:00:00 AM

Eoin,

You are most welcome.

I have tried it with I think 4.0.0.84 and it worked. Did you try that version? For example my Tytn II won't work with 90, but was fine with 84. Similarly, many Touch users had problems with 84, but 90 was fine.

Posted by Sems on 10/6/2007 3:00:00 AM

Afraid I had tried v4.0.0.84.

I did get what initially seemed a clean install, yet no software post install! I do recall that .84 was for WM6 *Standard* - I am running WM6 pro.

I'll give it another go and see.

yep - get the message "unable to install. uncertfied system software detected". (and no, its not an iphone!)

Followed by an unsuccessful install message.

Unlikely that there is a .84 version for WM6 pro?

http://sems.org/content/download/bbc4/o2-Terra-BBConnect_WM6_Professional_BB_4.0.0.84.cab

It was available for Pro, it was listed in one of the comments of my post for 4.0 release. So it will be fine (I use it on Tytn II).

Hi,

I am having a heck of a time getting this to work.

I have a Rogers HTC S621 (unlocked etc) running the latest WM6 from Rogers. (Upgraded myself)

I have the BB software loaded and under Identity all I get are:

PIN: Pending
IMEI: Radio Off
IP: No Connection

What am I doing wrong?

I have a data plan with Rogers, I can do everything else with the phone (POP Mail, SMS, etc)

Do I need to call Rogers and have them do something to make this work?

If anyone would be willing to work with me and help me get this up and running I would appreciate it.

You can even e-mail me directly if it is easier.

Sorry for the newb type of post but I really am stuck.

Thanks

D.

Sorry.. I forgot to mention....

I would like to set this up with a BIS not BES.

Just looking to use Internet Mail .... nothing else.

Thanks

D.

Posted by Derek (email) on 10/28/2007 3:00:00 AM

Do you have Blackberry or Blackberry Connect enabled on your data plan? That's the first thing you need. Also which version are you trying 4.0.0.76 or 84?

I haven't used S621 with Rogers ROM, but Blackberry Connect 4.0 versions are picky on carrier, rom version and device model as well.

Posted by Sems on 10/28/2007 3:00:00 AM

Thanks for the reply,

I do not have a BlackBerry connect on my data plan any more.

I used to have a BlackBerry but when it broke I decided to try this WM6 phone. (I miss the BB style of e-mail and I really hope I can get this working)

Do I just call up Rogers and ask for them to add the BlackBerry connect to my account?

Simple as that?

I am also trying 4.0.0.84 do you suggest I try the 76 version?

D.

Posted by Derek (email) on 10/28/2007 3:00:00 AM

Do you have a DL link for 76 ?

D.

Posted by Derek (email) on 10/28/2007 3:00:00 AM

1. Correct, just tell them you want to enable Blackberry Connect. Keep in mind Blackberry Connect plans are more expensive than regular PDA data plans.

2. http://sems.org/content/download/bbc4/BBConnect_WM5_Smartphone_BB.zip

I haven't used 84 on S621. You should first add BBC data plan and see if 84 works. If it fails, try 76.

Posted by Sems on 10/28/2007 3:00:00 AM

I hope they can just add the service and not mess with my data plan as it is.

I am getting 500mb for $60 right now from Rogers.

I would hate to see that go down in MB for the same $$$

Thanks for the advice though... I will call tomorrow and see what the data group says.

I called tonight and the tech guy couldn't do it ... he said I need to talk to the data group.

D.

Posted by Derek (email) on 10/28/2007 3:00:00 AM

Unfortunately, unless they made recent changes, it is not a separate addon but rather separate plan, and their $60 plan is 30 megs only which sucks.

Posted by sems on 10/29/2007 3:00:00 AM

YUP,

You are correct, I called today and for $20 MORE they can put me on the 200MB plan.

$20 more for 300 LESS MB NO THANK YOU!

I can't wait till Rogers gets their data plans in order... they just continue to screw us.

This BB Connect would have been perfect but there is no way I will switch plans.

DANG! I was so excited about the prospect of having proper push mail on my phone.

I really wish I never broke my BlackBerry and went for this model.

Live and Learn I guess.

D.

Posted by Derek (email) on 10/29/2007 3:00:00 AM

Derek,

You can get push email on Windows Mobile 6. Much easier than you think. You simply need an Exchange server. You can get a free account at live.mail2web.com. :)

Will the BB Connect 4.0 work on the new Q9h? I have instaleed the software on both the comuter and the device but can't get the PIN to gererate. If it can be done, can i get pointed in the right direction?

Posted by Blake (email) on 11/5/2007 3:00:00 AM

I had 4.0.0.84 working on the Q9H, it was the original Motorola ROM, no carrier branding. From which carrier have you got yours?

Which version did you try? 4.0.0.67? 76? 84?

Posted by Sems on 11/5/2007 3:00:00 AM

You actually got a PIN on a Q9h using .84? If so, was it the version on this site?

Thanks

Andy

Posted by Andy on 11/6/2007 3:00:00 AM

Also, what is your AKU (HKLM\System\Versions\AKU)?

Thanks

Andy

Posted by Andy on 11/6/2007 3:00:00 AM

It was the original release, but I don't recall the AKU version, and I no longer have the device. From which carrier have you got yours?

The versions on this site available are:

.84:

http://sems.org/content/download/bbc4/BBConnect_WM6_Standard_BB_4.0.0.84.zip

.76
http://sems.org/content/download/bbc4/BBConnect_WM5_Smartphone_BB.zip

Posted by Sems on 11/6/2007 3:00:00 AM

Mine is from AT&T and neither of those versions work. I was hoping I could just change the AKU string since it does work on the unbranded version.

Thanks,

Andy

Posted by Andy on 11/7/2007 3:00:00 AM

I asked my colleague who has the unit for the AKU version. I'll keep you posted.

Posted by Sems on 11/7/2007 3:00:00 AM

I just bought the Q9H and installed .84 and nothing worked. I hard reset the device then installed .76 Still nothing but, on the main screen of the device Blackberry is at the top. When I click Register Now in the Blackberry software, this changes to Network Available, then Data Tunnel Available, then back to Not Connected. So I am thinking I have the software setup correcly, but there is some setting I am missing. I am not able to generate a PIN. Better said, I dont know how to generate the PIN. What is the procedure.

Thanks in advance for any of your suggestions and help. I also have TMO Wing that has WM6 Pro on it. Both of them are "play" phones for me until I get one of them to work on TMO. When one does work, I will replace my BB8800.

Posted by andrej770 (email) on 11/17/2007 3:00:00 AM

You got the Q9h unlocked/unbranded or TMO version? I had the unbranded one and it was fine with .84 release.

The PIN will be generated by the network, as soon as an initial connection is established to blackberry.net APN. You don't normally have to do anything special.

Posted by Sems on 11/18/2007 3:00:00 AM

Hello,

I have installed BBC 4.0 on an HP iPAQ hw6915, running Windows Mobile 5. The problem is that i cannot get a pin assigned. Do you know what might goes on? The enabled service on sim is BES.

Thanks,
Bill

Posted by Tsironis Bill (email) on 11/28/2007 3:00:00 AM

Which exact version are you trying with .67 or .84? I believe .84 is WM6 only, so try with .67 version and see if it helps. What happens is that BBC 4.0 is picky on device model, ROM and carrier, so if you cannot get a PIN assigned, it will not work. With that said, people had success with different versions, for example .90 would not work on my HTC Tytn II, whereas .84 was working fine.

Posted by Sems on 11/28/2007 3:00:00 AM

Hi.
Got my HTC TyTh II up and running with 4.0.0.84 .. but I only receive e-mails, the server do not "see" that I delete them on my HTC so the remain in my In Box.
Also my callender do not sync .. not a single appointment has been trasfered to my HTC.

We have a Blackberry Manager system (server on a Windows Exchange) and it works perfect on the users that have real Blackberry phones, but not mine.

Anyone that has an idea of what is wrong?

Many thanks
/Anders

Posted by Anders on 1/11/2008 3:00:00 AM

Hey Anders,

1. Which version of Blackberry Enterprise Server are you using?

2. Which version of Exchange Server are you using?

For email deletion, check the Email reconciliation options. Also, keep in mind it may take up to 20 minutes for reconciliation to occur, if you checked your Inbox in shorter time period, it may not have been triggered yet.

The calendar issues are usually related to BES and its priviliges. Have your system admin check BES logs and see if he can find any info.

Hey Sems,

I downloaded bbc 4 and tried to install it on my HTC S720 on Telus. Everything worked and installed perfectly. It gave me a PIN and went through the options with me and then crashed the phone. I had to do a hard reset to restore the factory settings!
Any Ideas why?

Thanks

Posted by Ryan (email) on 2/11/2008 3:00:00 AM

Some devices don't work with some BBC versions, so you can try another. Plus make sure to install it to main memory.

On another note, I didn't know Telus supported BBC 4.0 on S720, that's good news.

And also where I can download the BBC 4.0 or the program so I can Install it on my new TyTh II

Posted by Luciano Guido (email) on 3/4/2008 3:00:00 AM

Blackberry Connect on Windows Mobile devices currently does not support Blackberry Messenger. It also only supports PIN messaging for incoming messages, you cannot send PIN messages.

The download links are on the front page actually, the thread is located at http://www.sems.org/entry.asp?ENTRY_ID=276. Download .97 version, that's the latest one for Tytn II.

Hi Sems, Can you advice if I can get BB COnnect on HTC 710 running Windows Mobile 6.0. Thanx

Posted by Puneet (email) on 3/21/2008 3:00:00 AM

I believe there were people successfully using BBC on S710, however, I don't recall which ROM they were using. Did you check the xda-developers.com forums?

Posted by Sems on 3/21/2008 3:00:00 AM

Just curious: Will BBC only do BES/MDS for sync and the BBC Browser, or can other apps (like an IM app, SSH terminal, etc.) also use the BES as proxy/relay?

Posted by F Peeters (email) on 4/11/2008 3:00:00 AM

Some apps will use MDS just fine, I was able use IM+ for example on my S621. For the others, you'll have to connect to your carrier's APN. (similar to setting TCP settings on a Blackberry device for some apps, such as Opera Mini).

Posted by Sems on 4/13/2008 3:00:00 AM

Do you happen to know what the difference is between those that can use MDS and those which require a direct APN access, or is it something that is tied to the settings on your company's BES server?

The most important ones would be IM (Currently have WebMessenger on my (dying) BB 8707V, and I'd like to keep it, as they also have a WinMob one), web (Will PIE work with MDS? Or do I have to use the BBC Browser?) and email (Well D'uh!)

But it would be nice, for instance, if I could also use VoIP (Skype or SIP client) through BES/MDS...

(The contract I am currently looking at has unlimited BES/MDS traffic worldwide, so I'd prefer to have as much as possible over MDS... But BB's just don't do 'it' for me at all! I find them clumsy, unreliable and mediocre in voice quality)

BTW: I forgot to mention I liked the article from which I linked to this screenshots page...

Posted by F Peeters on 4/13/2008 3:00:00 AM

I don't think it is related to BES settings, but rather how and where app accesses the net. IM+ probably works, because it is using HTTP to connect to shapeservices.de servers.

PIE works fine with MDS (you got a Blackberry Browser link that you'd need to use). I haven't tried Skype.

Hi all, I have a problem with BB Connect on my TyTN II. I have BES and everything is working fine in the past.

I reinstalled the OS to my PDA over the weekend and reinstalled BB Connect & then I cannot send/receive emails.

The little icon at the bottom right hand corner of the screen shows 4 blue circles, which indicates the BB Services is connected.

Also, on the BB Connect settings, under Status, it says connected, in the Identity Tab, PIN, IMEI, & IP Address are all ok, but under email settings, the box is blank and it says "Email Settings Unavailable". Under the Services tab, I can only see 3 services, Blackberry Internet browsing service, IPPP for BIBS & Provisioning.

This problem is weird because the Status is Connected, but somehow is not getting the email settings from the Blackberry server.

My company's IT is dealing with the operator's helpdesk and they are CLUELESS!!

Pls can anyone help?

Posted by Ethan (email) on 7/20/2008 3:00:00 AM

Two things you can try:

1. Have your IT dept generate a new wireless activation key. I am assuming you are using BES 4.x on Exchange?

Then reactivate the device on BES.

2. Install the Blackberry Desktop for WM (you can grab it at http://www.sems.org/entry.asp?ENTRY_ID=276). You need to have Outlook connected via MAPI to your Exchange box. Then you can run BB Desktop, connect the device and provision it from there.

Either one should fix it.

Hello all,

I have just changed from WM6 to WM61. Before this big change I used to run BBC perfectly. But after the change BBC does not want to connect. The first time I had connection but the enterprise activation stopped and thereafter there hasn't been connection so activation is pending.

I have a HTC Tytn II and ave installed the latest BBC. I am also on BES however my IT department does not know whats wrong and do not have the time to look into it. Can anyone help me and suggest what settings I/my IT department should change?

The messages I get when trying to register to the network are:
1) Network Available
2) Data Tunnel Available
3) Not Connected.

I called my network supplier and they said everthing was working fine on their end...
(I tested my account by using a BlackBerry device and my account works flawlessly however, I would like to use my Tytn II...)

Many thanks in advance!

Both try the .100 releases. If it doesn't work try lower versions.

First of all a big thank you for a very informative site.

Which version would work best for a O2 Xda Exec running on Windows 5? I am sure this has been answered somewhere on your site, but when I went to the link, the vodafone.de site had removed the one for pocket pcs.

Thanks once again in advance.

Also if you could let me know the appropriate version for WM 6 / WM 6.1

Try the links on http://www.sems.org/entry.asp?ENTRY_ID=338

Start from 104 and try the rest if needed.

Hi, I don't know if you can help me...I broke my BB and I'm trying to use my HTC S620. I've installed the BB Connect 4.0.0.76. I've installed the BB Desktop. My company uses BES. I followed all the steps, and in the S620 appears the PIN / email /... but I'm not able to sincronize anything. In the first cable connection, it seem to sync calendar, conctacts and email... but just the first time. And I'm not able to do it wirelessly... my screens shots would match with yours except for the following thing:
*service screen, with less services,
*My company enterprise server is 4.0.6
*Under the BB floder I've got just the two first of them.
*Activation screen is empty.

The IT guy can't help me...he says that, when he has to switch to a new BB, keeping the same account and line, he does NOT need to do nearly anything... connect the BB to BB Desktop, select de Lotus INI... moving the mouse and that's it!

Is there anything wrong????
Thanks a lot for your help!

To me it looks like it is not properly activating on BES (hence the missing service books/services).

Couple of ideas are:

1. Have your IT guy check the BES logs.
2. Try a different version, see http://www.sems.org/entry.asp?ENTRY_ID=338 for latest versions.
