Blackberry Connect 4.0 for Windows Mobile is out
Here is some great news everyone. Blackberry has released the new and shiny Blackberry Connect 4.0 client for Windows Mobile devices, including support for Smartphones and Pocket PCs. It also supports Windows Mobile 6, along with 5.
Here is a brief features list from their press release:
- Complete, two-way wireless synchronization of email, calendar, address book, task and memo pad information;
- Enhanced attachment handling capabilities, enabling users to view images, footnotes and tracked changes;
- Remote look-up of corporate email address directory;
- Triple DES or AES wireless encryption;
- Internet and corporate intranet access via the BlackBerry Mobile Data System;
- Wireless device provisioning to allow devices to be activated wirelessly;
- Remote control of email settings to allow users to wirelessly configure out-of-office replies, email filters, and auto-signatures directly from their device; and
- Wireless IT policy enforcement and commands.
Previously, you couldn't issue Wireless IT commands or activate wirelessly. There was no MDS functionality and mostly sync was limited to Calendar, Contacts (with some BBC versions) and Emails. Now all PIM info can be synced and you wouldn't have to change your APN to browse the internet (blackberry.net APN does not allow Internet access, so to use Internet Explorer, you had to switch to your carrier's APN, like internet.fido.ca and during this time you'd lose Blackberry connectivity), as you'd be using MDS. Also now you can password protect the device, remotely lock and disable it as well. You can also enter Owner Info to display on the Today/Home Screen.
With the new Blackberry Connect 4.0, after your setup completes and device is activated on your BES or BIS server, you'll get a new folder called with:
Blackberry Lock Device
Blackberry Security - where you can see your IT policy info, set password, etc
Email Settings - to setup BIS
Internet Browser
Blackberry Browser
For the last two, there is new proxy settings added to the device and that's how it connects to MDS.
I'll be testing more, as I just installed in on my HTC Excalibur (Rogers HTC S621), running Windows Mobile 6.
So, if you are interested, grab the files below:

You'll be fine if you just download the cab appropriate for your device, as you can activate wirelessly. But if you'll be using a BES server, I recommend the desktop component as well.
Update 1:
Forgot to write couple things.
When you first set up the client, it will ask what you would like to sync and once they are selected, it will delete those databases (such as contacts, etc), setup your connection and reboot.
Also of course on a smartphone, it will not sync notes.
Finally, if you receive "uncertified system software detected" error on your cab installation, make sure you have downloaded the correct file. For my HTC S621, I first found the Pocket PC version and it gave this error. Once I downloaded and run the smartphone version, all was fine.

I believe the new 4.0 is designed for WM6, but I read people using with WM5 on xda-developers.com. You can give it a shot. But I highly recommend WM6 (you can install the T-Mobile official release, after CID unlocking the device). It is very stable and tons of new features.

i wonder if the issue that it wont go to a bis is that under options/details it says blackberry.net for apn and i cant change this???

I'd recommend reading the user guide, listed in the post. It is very easy to activate the BIS, under Email Settings in Blackberry app. However, currently 4.0 version is picky on device ROM and model numbers, and it is known to work with HTC Hermes (aka Tytn, Cingular 8525,etc) and HTC Excalibur (aka T-Mobile Dash, S620). So it may not work with Wing. If you are not getting a PIN assigned, this might be the case.
When Blackberry Service is installed on the unit, it automatically creates a connection to APN blackberry.net. That is the APN used by any Blackberry activated SIM to connect to Blackberry network and it will not allow you to change it.
Juan:
1. There is two icons, Internet and Blackberry. Internet browser comes once BIS is active, and Blackberry browser is when BES is.
2. I don't remember the proxy settings, but they are set automatically, so you don't need to set it manually (it was a 10.x.x.x class IP and set same for both Internet and Blackberry browser configs)

i found a different version on a german voda site.
it seems to do more under settings..
i gives me a restart option but it will not connect...
it is missing the other blackberry file in the explorer...

My problem is that I do not have the Blackberry Brwoser icon in my HTC TyTn. All other functionalities work just great.
Any ideas? Do you think it could be related to the fact that my company has BES version 4.0.6 and not 4.1?

Like I said, the BBC 4 is picky with model numbers and rom versions, so that's probably why it is not working for you on Wing. Try some older versions from Vodaphone and other sites (you can also check http://www.sems.org/entry.asp?ENTRY_ID=162)
Also there might be some other users on xda-developers.com who have run BBC on Wing, so you might try a post there.
On my S621, the procedure was:
1. Install
2. Run Blackberry application, go through its initial set, let it reboot.
3. Go under Activation in Blackberry application and enter my email address and BES wireless activation password. Once activation was completed, everything was setup, including Blackberry browser.
Juan, when you go under your Internet connection, proxy settings, do you see two proxies set up there? I don't have my S621 on me right now, I'll post some screenshots tomorrow. I don't think it should be related to 4.0.6 / 4.1 difference, but who knows. MDS has changed since 4.0, in the sense that MDS connection service and mds system are now separate, but intrinsics are pretty much similar.
Leet, you might try the older BBC versions, which should work on Cavalier, as the older versions did not have any checks on them (heck, they even started to encrypt logs with 4.o, in the past they were plain text).

Hi
Did anybody try to use BlackBerry Connect on Samsung SGH i600 phone. I'm using FIDO. BlackBerry connect is working on my Nokia E62 with no problem so I tried on Samsung, I did setup Fido GPRS I used the same SIM card try to activate but it is not working. I’m getting activation pending but could not go pass that. Any advice would be appreciated.

Samsung, see the comments above. Currently, Blackberry Connect 4 is known to work with HTC Hermes and Excalibur series (HTC Tytn, T-Mobile Dash, etc). So your issue might be related to that. You can try an earlier Blackberry Connect client and see what happens.

I have tried the V4.0 a number of times without any luck on my HTC S621 - Rogers (wm5). It seems that at one point it is working, but then when I go and reboot the phone, it will hang on the splash screen. Any thoughts what I am doing wrong?

Hi Peter,
I haven't tried to run it under WM5, but under WM6 it has been very stable. As far as I know the client is designed for WM6 devices, but I read some success stories with WM5.
One thing you can try is to hard reset the unit, install only BBC 4.0 and see what happens. It might be interacting with some other software and having issues. Also take a look at Excalibur forums on xda-developers.com web site.

just installed on the O2 XDA Orbit (former HTC) in Ireland... no PIN generated and no connection to network through BB.
Called O2 and they don't support the XDA yet, but surely if I could get the connect s/w onto the device it's just something I'm missing maybe to get it to generate PIN...
Any ideas??

You will probably need to stick with older BB Connect client (see http://www.sems.org/entry.asp?ENTRY_ID=162) as many devices don't seem to work with the 4.0. It appears Blackberry has implemented a check mechanism to check device model and rom version. Please read the other comments to this thread.

Hi Sems, regarding the fact that I do not have the Blackberry Browser icon, I looked at your screenshots and found the following: my versions on BB client are 4.0.0.67 and 4.0.0.70 for the Transport. For BBES I have 4.0.6. In your screen shots you have higher versions for all three. Could this be the explanation? i.e. that my versions do not bring the BB Browser. Remember that you have a Smartphone and I have a Pocket PC Phone. Any ideas?.

The version numbers of the Smartphone and Pocket PC are different and that should be ok. The only difference I can think of is the BES version, it is quite possible the 4.0 client requires 4.1 version of the MDS. I don't have any test beds running 4.0, so I can't test it out. The only thing I can suggest is a hard reset and install from scratch. This way you can ensure only BBC is installed and nothing else is interfering.

Does the SIM card work fine with a Blackberry? Do you have Blackberry or Blackberry Connect enabled via your carrier? Check out the manual and see if you are missing a step or something.

It does seem a little bit old, as it doesn't show Blackberry Browser listed as available, but still it is a good reference for many.
Also, I thought of one more thing. Did you try your card with a Blackberry device and did Blackberry browser work there? The reason I am asking, your IT guys might have blocked MDS access via BES IT Policy. You might want to check with them.

Same problem here, I installed BB 4.0.0.67 on my HTC P3300 (Orbit, XDA III, SPV M650) on WM5. It is recognized in the BB info tab as HTC Artemis.
I can get my PIN and IMEI, but it won't connect via blackberry.net to the network...
I'm on orange.fr FYI

Simply copy the cab file to your device using Active Sync or Windows Mobile Device Manager (for Vista). Then open up File Explorer on the device, find the cab and click and run.
Or alternatively, if you have a memory card for your device, simply put the card in a card reader, copy the cab, put the card back into the device, run File Explorer, find the cab and click and run.

I tried with all the older 2.0 clients, clean installed after hard reset, everything...
Always the same problem:
It connects to the RIM GPRS, then disconnects...
I am on my service provider's BlackBerry Internet (not enterprise) Server, could it be a reason ?
Just to be sure, I tried my sim card on a Pearl Blackberry device, it worked perfectly...
Is there a registery tweak to perform in WM5 or something ?

It doesn't install the Smartphone version.
"Unable to install. Uncertified system software detected."
The PPC version I can install but it doesn't connect to KPN (Netherlands) provider.

Hi John,
Windows Mobile 5 devices require 2.1 or better version of BBC. So if you tried 2.0, it won't work. Get your 2.1 specifically for your device type at http://support.vodafone.de/index_l3_2z.html#vpacompactiii and see what happens. Your account being on BIS should not matter.

You cannot use a smartphone version on a PPC or vice versa unfortunately. Did you try your card on a Blackberry device? If everything was fine there, then try a hard reset, install Blackberry Connect and see if that works. I had a trouble running it with my S621, after a hard reset, all was fine.

thanks for shedding light on the icon Browser problem. My colleagues using blackberry devices have the Browser working and I had it too before moving to a Windows Pocket PC.
I will be seeing the IT guys on Thursday but over the phone they confirmed they had not enabled MDS on the server.
I'll try to put together some articles from the Blackberry site so that they know what they will have to do to enable this function. If you have some URLs on this, that will help.

I didn't hear anyone successfully running 4.0 on Treo 750v. With that said, did you try to go to your Control panel and run the Blackberry Applet there, after installation?

I did a hard reset (again), installed the vodafone BB 2.1 for VPA compact III, and... it worked !
So, I did a restore of my rom (with the BB connect 4.0.0.67 installed on it) - wanting to backup everything, and... BlackBerry service was working too !!!
I don't get it.
Did nothing different...
Maybe it was Orange causing a prob, but it worked before with my sim card on a Blackberry device, so...
Anyway, BB Connect V4 works now on my HTC P3300 (Artemis) with WM5, and I want to thank you again for your support...

Now that's interesting. So after it was working fine with 2.1, you restored your data with 4.0 and now 4.0 works fine. Were the PIN numbers generated same? Maybe when it was working with 2.1, it triggered sth on Blackberry network, allowing it to accept 4.0.

Yes, the PIN numbers were the same.
It wasn't working with 2.1 a couple of days ago neither, so...
All I can say for now is that BB connect v4.0 works, but is very slow on a 200Mhz OMAP processor.

Once you have a BES enabled account (T-Mobile has BIS and BES enabled account types), all you have to do is on the BES server add your user, set an activation password, then in Blackberry client, go to Activation and enter your email address and activation password to complete wireless activation. You can also use the Blackberry Desktop Client for Windows Mobile to activate it wired.

I have jamin. I am using 2.1.1.18 as Desktop connect and 2.1.2.54 as Client. The PIN is not getting generated. Any suggestions

Try a different version of the client, especially a one designed for Jamin. Also, make sure you have the latest ROM for your device. There are ROM version requirements for each Blackberry Connect client.

I have installed BBConnect on my unlocked T-Mobile MDA. I am using a cingular SIM card that I took out of my blackberry. I am able to get a Status of Connected, but I can't seem to get activated on the BES server. I have tried using the Descktop client. It seems to work (says Handset Configured Successfully), but I can send/recieve email and nothing is syncing. I tried wireless activation and it start going through the activation process... Activation Pending, Activating, Verifying Encryption, Encryption Verified, then I get an error that just says Error: Contact Administrator.
My IT guys aren't that interested in helping me out, so I was wondering if anyone had a clue about this.

It'd be hard to tell what is preventing you activate it without knowing your BES server configuration. One thing I can think of is that BES servers has a control, where you can define which types of devices are allowed to activate. If they have turned that control on and your device is not on the list of allowed device types, you won't be able to activate. Same control also can lock activation by PIN number.

For BB Connect, use 2.1, as for ROM version, check what is latest available ROM on Imate's web site.

OK. So maybe I am being thick ;)
I installed the Desktop Client for PPC AOK but it didn't ask me at all about installing code onto my (anciant) HP iPAQ 6510 (PPC2K3).
I have the PPC zip file but there is no executable in the zip.
So what does one do (apart from throw away the ancient iPAQ!)?

There is a cab file in the zip file, which you'll need to extract, copy to the device and open it there. The cab file is an executable for the Pocket PC device.
However, you cannot run 4.0 on Windows Mobile 2003. You'll have to use 2.1, as 4.0 can only run on Windows Mobile 5 or 6. You can get 2.1 from the links at http://www.sems.org/entry.asp?ENTRY_ID=162

I have an HW 6515 with WM2003 version 4.21 and can't install 2.1 the cab file is not a valid Windows CE setup file. I am also having problem with my Cingular 8525 that won't connect, pin is available but service book is empty. I tried to force the phone to GSM only but still same issue I did put it in different posting.
Please help I need to get one of these two unit working.

Hi again Moe,
First, did you try a different cab file for 6515? It sounds like a corrupt cab file. You can try to get a desktop installer, and run it on the desktop to install it.
As for the 8525, till you activate your service with a BIS or BES server, your service books will be empty. Try this, if possible. Hard reset the unit, install 4.0, see if it would generate the pin and stay connected. If not hard reset again, try 2.1. 4.0 is known to be fine with HTC Hermes units (like your 8525) so it should work.

I did some readings and it looks like the AT&T rom 2.15 is the issue for my cingular 8525. I am trying to downgrade but can't find the correct info since the downgrade checks the bootloader and i have a higher revision.
as far as the cab file for the 6515 i used the same file and it worked on the 8525 with the exception of course I can't connect. if you have the cab file and don't mind to email it to me i would appreciate it.

Hello!! First and foremost thank you for the post!! I am a complete newbie to the blackberry/pocket pc world. I have a HTC s621 (wm6, rogers, unlocked) smartphone and had a few questions regarding the blackberry connect sofware. I was wondering if someone would share their vast knowledge with me.
1) does the blackberry connect software on a windows mobile 6 smartphone handle data differently then on a traditional blackberry?
A rogers customer service rep told me that it did and that i would have to have a special blackberry connect data package that would cost 40 bucks and would include approximately 6mb of data.
2) Is it possible to pin a traditional blackberry device from my HTC s621 (wm6) running the blackberry connect software? the same way people pin each other with blackberry devices?
3) Is pin - ing truely unlimited?
4) where do i get the backberry settings needed for the rogers network in canada?

1. Can you elaborate on "handle data"? If you are talking about connection to the blackberry.net APN, yes they are same. They connect the same APN, same settings and you need to have either Blackberry Connect or Blackberry plan enabled on your account.
2. Currently Blackberry Connect 4.0 supports only one way PIN messaging, from a Blackberry device to S621. You cannot reply to it.
3. PIN messaging also uses your data, so no it is not unlimited either. However, depending size of your messages, you should be able to send a lot of them under your plan.
4. You don't need to get any settings, the software (blackberry connect client) automatically sets it up for you. It will setup a special data connectiong named Blackberry, which connects to blackberry.net APN with proper username/password.

I'm running a XDA TRION (HTC HERMES)- having downloaded the below metnioned files, I've not managed to get the set-up file to download the BBC 4.0 onto the device: Please advise if start up file is missing in the downloads or I've missed something ?

Guni, to install the software to your Trion, simply unzip the Pocket PC Phone Edition zip file to your desktop, copy the cab file to your device, either using ActiveSync Explorer or if you have a memory card, using a card reader and run the cab file on the device by opening it up in File Explorer.

When i said handle data i meant the transmission of data with a smartphone (wm6, running blackberry connect) vs. a blackberry device. Do i need to have a blackberry connect plan or a regular blackberry plan? I know that the blackberry connect plan includes more MB.

Either a Blackberry or a Blackberry Connect plan will be fine. I am using it with a regular Blackberry plan.

It worked for about two weeks. (I had to restart the device a few times though, sometimes BB Connect just wouldn't launch, but I was receiving my emails.)
But since this week-end, it just stopped working again:
I still have BIS enabled with Orange France - and my account still works like a charm on a RIM device...
Now, on my HTC under WM5, it connects to blackberry.net service (when I start up or turn radio on), then disconnects right after. No error msg, nothing, just the little cross next to the BB icon in the tray.
I tried with a few different roms, with BB Connect 2.1.2.54 and 4.0.0.67, but no luck this time...
If you have any idea...

I've downloaded the correct files and installed OK.
The problem is that BB only works when connected via activesync. I know my way around connections, and BB config, and device is OK with this.
The only thing different I see is that the BB APN is not the correct one (at least in Portugal).. I manage 350 BB devices and one of the thing I know "by heart" is that the BB APN for Europe is srp.eu.blackberry.net, and not just blackberry.net. Of course the APN IP is not the same.
Is there ANY way I can change this value on my installed Hermes??

Hi Taz,
PIN to PIN is already available for some Blackberry connect clients (2 way), however, they are different platforms, such as Symbian. So I am pretty much sure it is a matter of time. Blackberry Connect has some other nice features:
1. Compressing your data. When you surf via Blackberry Browser, it uses MDS (Mobile Data Services) on the Blackberry Enterprise Server, which compresses and encrypts data. This can speed up your page load times and also uses less data.
2. Notes - Via ActiveSync over the air you cannot sync it. Blackberry Connect allows syncing them OTA.
3. Additional security - You can password protect the unit and it can be wiped remotely (remote wipe is also available on Exchange.)
These are the major items I can think of.
JD, it is nice to see you again. Right after the article everything was fine, like you said. Then starting last mid-week, I had to hard reset the unit to fix something unrelated and Blackberry Connect will not connect ever since on my Trinity. Even 2.1 doesn't work anymore for some reason. Like you, my card works fine in a BB unit. The BBC will say Network Available, Data Tunnel Available then instead of connected, I'll get Not Connected. I think Blackberry people have read our posts and blocked us ;)
If you find anything of use, let me know. I'll do the same.

You are confusing SRP Address with APN. SRP (Server Routing Protocol) Address is used to connect the handheld devices and Blackberry Enterprise Server to the Blackberry Infrastructure. It has nothing to do with your GPRS/EDGE/UMTS/HSDPA connection. You first connect to blackberry.net APN, then through that connection you connect to srp.xx.blackberry.net (for Canada xx is ca, for Europe it is eu, etc.). So you do NOT need to edit this value.

I am using KPN in the Netherlands. It has worked well but after a clean re-install it doesn't work anymore. We tried everything but no result after almost two weeks.

It fully integrates into Pocket Outlook, it adds itself as an additional account there. So when you run the Messaging app, you'll see Blackberry on the list, along with your pop3, exchange, text, mms, etc accounts.

Blackberry Connect only allows GPRS/CDMA/WWAN connections similar to most Blackberry devices, with the exception of 7270 model, which is wifi only, no WWAN). This is also true for Microsoft's Direct Push. I guess it is just scheme carrier got Blackberry and MS into to make more money.

That is interesting. I find with direct push over the GPRS/EDGE system to be very data hungry. It takes a tone of my monthly data allotment. When at home, my Direct Push works over my WIFI connection with my S621, which is nice, i am thinking about getting a wifi router at my business to conserve my data usage.

I finally downgraded my HTC 8525 and finally my bb connect and download the service book. I now have a problem I do receive emails no problem but unable to reply or send new email all these function is grayed out. I don't know why I am having a bad luck so still can't work with this.
If you know of anyone have the HTC cingular 8525 and working please let me know or if you could suggest what I can do. By the way I did try couple of version of bb connect software two installed successfully but greyed out to reply and send and the rest wouldn't install at all.
Any help would be great.

I have worked with 2.1 and 4.0. Both worked but after the clean install neither of them is working now.
On the BES we created the user again, but we don't get connection to the BES.
When we try to get connection the HTC gets an IP number for a short period, but no PIN and then it says no connection.
What can be the problem. I contacted KPN (dutch provider) but they see no connection problems in the BB cloud.

Taz, I think you are mixing Direct Push, which syncs instantly with your Exchange Server, with scheduled sync. Direct Push will not work with wifi.
Moe, I don't know why reply/new mail won't work. If the messages are coming in your CMIME service book is supposed to be fine. One thing you can try is resend service books from your BES server or remove your BES account, deleting your settings as well, and re-add your account to BES and activate it on the unit. Keep this in mind, this will delete your Blackberry OTA backup, filters, and such, so you'll have to recreate them.
Kresimir, I don't have any HTC Universal handy, you might want to check forums.xda-developers.com, I have seen some people successfully running BB Connect (but I don't recall if it was for 2.1 or 4.0).
Donee, I have read forum posts about Blackberry manually blocking access to certain PINs. They know what your device is and your provider and they block it if your provider is not officially supporting the device. This might be your case (as well as mine and many others)

I just have another question about the HP 6955 with WM5 which is the one that I hope it works because it is the one I will have to use the Cingular 8525 is only a testing device. The problem I am having with the HP it is not giving me a pin is shows Pending all the time and I am unable to register.

Just a comment to all, BBC4 doesn't like WM6 SIP phone. If you have BBC4 installed and configured when you try to dial via a SIP provider the phone hangs. Remove BBC4 and SIP works fine. BBC2.1.2.54 seems to work OK with SIP.

Well I guess Sems is right the bbc doesn't work with all units blackberry must be blocking pins. I tried all different version of bb connect on my hp ipaq hw6955 including 2.1.2.54 and nothing works. This same one worked on my cingular 8525 after downgrading the rom revision to an older one.
It would be nice if someone can alter the cab file and have it work with any unit.

The setup cab file's XML is for the installation allowance. So if the cab installs fine, your device is not one of the unsupported platforms. But again this is just for the installation of the cab, it has nothing to do with if the Blackberry network actually supports your device.
The issue can be resolved by either hacking the dll files installed or writing a loader type of software, which will report your OS version, as well as device type as one of the supported ones. And this has to be actually one of the supported platforms of your carrier. The limitation is not just based on the OS/ROM version and device type but also on the carrier. The carriers provide a list of supported devices to RIM.

from reading Sems comments and from experience I don't think that bb connect works with lots of rom revision, even with my HTC Hermes WM5 I had to downgrade to an older version of rom to make it work.

It is not a simple ROM version issue but a combo of ROM and carrier. If your carrier does not support a particular ROM, then it may not work as well with BBC.

As long as your device is connected to Blackberry network it will work. It is the same rules applying to any Blackberry device. Also, you can backup the unit and test as well. I highly recommend also setting up the password to lock the device.

To those of you using BB Connect 4.0 on the C730 (S630) - I have a question. I have a BES account for my main business email, and 3 other POP accounts that I access through the BIS from AT&T-Cingular. So, on my Blackeberry this works fine as they each get their own Mail folder on the UI and I can access each one of them individually-- even though one is BES and 3 are BIS.
So, my question is - how would / does this work on the C730 / S630 with WM 6.0 and BB Connect 4.0? Can I setup my BES, get everything sync to my server, then go to my BIS account on AT&T/Cingular and change the PIN and IMEI to my new C730 / S630 device - and will those BIS emails also come to my new device via the BB Connect? Will they all show up in separate folders (i.e. as separate email accounts in WM6)....or am I limited to just the one BES account - and then I have to setup separate POP accounts in WM6 Outlook Mobile to access the other email accounts (and not via BBerry Connect?). Obviously I would prefer that all my email work through BBConnect 4.0 (BES and the BIS accounts) - because sending and receiving email via BBerry is much faster then POP.....thanks to all!

Thanks SEMS. I read elsewhere that wiping was something Blackberry makes available but unless the manufacturer makes that available in the hardware it wont work.
In fact, on the Blackberry site the press releases for the 620/621 mention nothing about wiping, but for a particular Sony it specifically mentions wiping.

The older version of BB Connect could only support a total of (3) Service Books on Windows Mobile devices - meaning only a total of (3) email addresses can be managed from BBConnet. Any ideas on version 4.0 and how many services books (email accounts) it will support on WM 6.0 with BBConnect v 4.0??

I haven't tried much of BIS with 4.0, but according to user guide:
"Each service appears as a separate email account. To view the email message folders in the email account that you want to use, tap the plus sign beside that account."
So I believe the answer is yes. As for number of service books, the number has not changed. For Windows Mobile Platform, it is still 3. See my other comment at http://www.sems.org/entry.asp?ENTRY_ID=234#1086 for full details.
Mike, you might be right. I never tried it when I had the unit. Right now it is loaned to a friend of mine so I cannot double check it. Your best bet is trial and error. At least password protection is there for sure, which does local wipe after 10 wrong password attempts.

It is combination of carrier, device and ROM version. Blackberry Connect 4 is picky on them. Did you try to use 2.1.
On my HTC P3600 (Trinity), I had to first run 2.1, emails and calendar was working fine, hard reseted the unit, installed 4.0 and it was then working fine. Standalone 4.0 install did not work. It was fine for 2 weeks. Then I had to hard reset the unit for some other issue. Now I can't get 4.0 work at all.
Try to run 2.1 and see what happens.

Hi- great page. I'm trying to get the connect software to run on my sprint ppc6800 running WM6 (under the blackberry control panel about device=HTC-Tital. It installs without any problems however the service cannot connect. If I click on register device I note that the service states network available then data tunnel available but then quickly switches back to "not connected". Of course activation remains pending because the service will not connect. I'm assuming the blackberry servers are not allowing me to connect?

All the Blackberry Connect clients for Windows Mobile I have seen/used so far are for GSM devices. PPC6800 is a CDMA device and I don't think BBC will work on it properly.

Hope that somone can hack the cab file to make it work with all different WM devices. My HTC cingular 8525 had to be downgraded to an older WM5 rom to make it work with bb 4.0 previous to the downgrade I tried many different bb connect and none of them work.
I still also wish that I can make it work with my hp ipaq hw6515 I couldn't insatll it because none of these bb connect works with Windows 2003 CE.
if anyone knows of someone sucessfully installed it on WM2003 please let me know.

At the present time Blackberry Connect 4 works only with certain providers, certain devices and ROM versions. It is a mix of all 3. You can give it a shot with 2.1 and see what happens. I have seen in xda-developers.com forums that some Wizard ROMs have been successfully patched to make BBC work.

The answer is yes, but there is a limit. You can sync emails with Blackberry Connect and Direct Push. For calendar, contacts, tasks you can only sync with one. So for example if you are syncing calendar with BBC, you can't sync calendars with DP. You can of course, disable the calendar sync from BBC and sync it with DP, etc. Emails are fine, as they are created as separate accounts under Pocket Outlook. The rest use a single db for each, so to prevent duplicates, etc., only one sync source is allowed for them.

Connection Question
I use a BES Server. I can install BB Connect 4.x and use fine with email. My compnay doesn't allow APN settings other than the Blackberry.net APN on the device, and hasn't enabled the browser on my device.
However, when using my Blackberry device (8700) I can use apps such as Opera Mini, and browse the web fine. My question is this:
Is there a way to configure my Pocket PC to access the Blackberry.net APN and use the data connection that apps such as Opera Mini use on the blackberry device? I had assumed it was using MDS, but reading the above suggests that if that were the case, my device would have the blackberry browser working (which it doesn't).

Technically, your company cannot prevent you connecting to different APNs on a Windows Mobile device.
With that said, I'd highly recommend you reading the Blackberry Connect manual. With 4.0, it supports MDS (Mobile Data Services), which installs as a proxy to your device. With MDS you can (if your company has not disabled Blackberry Browser or MDS via a BES Server Policy):
Use Blackberry Browser (on a Windows Mobile device, it is Pocket IE, which is connecting through MDS)
Have the third party apps connect through the proxy/MDS

i am running the latest bb connect 4.0.0.84 (BES version) downloaded from http://www.dopodasia.com/Dopod_HK/member/login.aspx
It runs on the Dopod C730 which is an upgraded version of your HTC S621. I am using Singapore M1's BIS 3G Sim card.
I can use the Internet Browser from the installed BlackBerry Folder, and Midlet Manager (Java gmail and opera mini because I could Choose Network Type to "My BlackBerry" in Midlet Manager's Settings, )
However, when I use some smartphone programs such as Dopod RSS Reader, skype for smartphone 2.2.0.36 (text chat only, voice chat not yet supported), or IM+ 1.38 for smartphone, then my BB Connect will show Blocked-Radio is use.
My experience with BB Pearl was that I need to go into Options, Advanced Options, TCP to enter my Singapore's M1 APN, Username and Password to enable me to browse the web via Opera Mini and run MSN Messenger while using BB Mail all at the same time.
I hope this post can shed some light on this confusing issue, if someone has also found the solution to this issue please also help.

Going under Settings - Connections, where you normally define your GPRS settings, you can setup your carrier's APN.
Under my account, I have both Blackberry and Internet.com APNs (my carrier Rogers' regular Internet APN) enabled. I don't think this should make a difference though, because it sounds like your device is unable to handle concurrent APN connections, it is disconnecting you from blackberry.net APN and switching you to M1 APN, thus effectively disabling bb mail for the time you use those apps.
The only workaround I can see is if you can force those apps to use Blackberry.net connection and proxies it sets up.
BTW, can you email 4.0.0.84 (since I am not a Dopod user, I cannot download it)? You can use sems at sems dot org email address.

It is a combination of carrier and ROM versions, so it may work Danny D. Simply download the Pocket PC install cab file from the links above, copy the file to your device, run File Explorer, find the copied cab file and run it.

Thanks for the response - I think the technicalities are that the APNs for WAP and internet are diabled on my SIM, and only the blackberry.net APN is accessible.
The provider won't enable the others as its part of my corporate account and against policy ....
I don't get the blackberry browser either on my blackberry or my Pocket PC, but can use Opera Mini on the blackberry, but not on the Pocket PC.
Any idea how it connects from the Blackberry?
Is tehre a proxy server for the Balckberry.net APN?

Hello,
Has anyone been able to get this working on a BJ WM 6.0?
I had to install it a few times to get it to load properly (it was freezing on the ATT screen). Once it was loaded I got the treaded PIN Pending.
I have an unlocked BJ running WM 6.0 rom on T-mobile US service with BlackBerry Enterprise service.
I did a lot of searching today and haven't found a way to get this running.
Does anyone know what to do?

yes I have it fully runnign now on 2.1 but noy on 4.0 the BBC4 does not get a pin know issues with bell apperently. howevr 2.1 has been working fine for a month now

Hello everyone,
A month ago I managed to get BBC 4.0 working on my HTC S710 WM6 device thanks to the posts on this page.
However since a week (after reboot of the device) my mail,calendar,contacts stopped synchronizing.
What I tried so far is:
1. wipe the handheld and re-installed BBC4.0 and no luck
2. tried activating on Blackberry 8800 and it worked
3. wiped HTC s710 again and still no luck.
The message I get is " activation pending".
I have tried as suggested BBC 2.1 and this one is not supported.
Someone posted that RIM could be blocking this device if it's not supported officially. How true is this? Is this verified information?
Would anyone have clues to this problem?
Really appreciate if anyone could help me with this.

I believe it is a confirmed info that BBC 4.0 checks ROM version, device model and carrier and blocks the connection, if the carrier does not support that particular model/rom. I had several devices that worked in the past and stopped working after couple weeks.

I just spoke to Vodafone and they indeed couldn't help as they indeed do not support this.
However I dont see a reason for blocking this.
Perhaps I should contact RIM?
I advised my company to purchase these after thorougly testing it.

I don't think RIM will assist either. The whole argument is coming from two points:
1. Technically Blackberry Connect is licensed to OEM/Carriers. I think they don't want everyone simply download and run this because of licensing issues.
2. They are trying to cut down support costs. This part is coming from carriers mainly. They don't want to support every phone out there, which sadly makes sense.
Hopefully new upcoming Blackberry app, the simulates a Blackberry handheld environment, will not have these limitations.

Hi all,
I installed the bbconnect on my new HP 514 wm6 based. I tried to make a wireless activation, but I have no connection to select. How can I do it? More info: I have only a B icon and I can only select what I need to synchronize. Then (after a deletion warning) I receive a message with select connection, but it is grey and no connection available in the drop-down list.
Any help is appreciated.

There is nothing to choose, it sets up one connection named Blackberry, that's the only connection you can use. Simply click Next.
I recommend reading the manual, links are provided above, it contains valuable info. Page 16 is what you are looking for.

Bad news.. I read the manual again. It is strange but I have no system tab. I can browse from start->settings and stop. No one trace of BB application. The only icon I have is under start. I tried the activation with BB connect desktop for wm, but I have problems with communication too. It recognize the device, but pressing the button "Configure Wireless Handset" an error appears: check you device connection or if your application is running. I ran the application, but the error is the same.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't HP 514 a Windows Mobile Standard? If so, you have to use the Smartphone version of BBC, not Pocket PC.

yes Sems it's true. The first time I tried the version 4.0.0.9 (for professional) and I received the error concerning uncertified system software detected (as your description above). Then I used the smartphone edition. It is strange, because no new connection named Blackberry or others are created under connection. Is my phone compatible with the bbconnect setup? I would like to try to install old connector (2.x for example) and then I will remove it (if the connection was made, leaving the configuration file there). Have you a link to download it for smartphone? Otherwise, have you another idea or something to check? Yesterday evening, I made an hard-reset too, but the problem is still there. No one error during the setup of the client.

Hi Alex,
If I remember correctly, on a Smartphone, it will hide the Blackberry connection, but you can check it out via registry. I don't remember it off the top of my head which key, but if you have another connection, you can search for its name, or search "Blackberry". I don't have a smartphone/wm6 standard on me right now, so can't verify if mine shows it under Connections.
The device should be fine with BBC, I only have a copy of 4.0 for smartphone as linked above, if I find a copy of 2.1 Smartphone, I'll let you know.

Can somebody eplain how to terminat the BBC? Under BBC 4, the security locks the device every 60 min, which is not very helpful if you run a navigation program, because you are on the road. Every 60 min stop, re-program your Navi etc.

You can disable the password protection, however via IT Policy set by corporate BES server, you may not be able to do so. Read the security section under the user guide.
The only other option is to disable BBC, but then you'll have to go through the setup/activation process.

hi, i'm using an HTC S621 with the wm6 t-mobile dash rom on the rogers network.
i'm having trouble finding where in the midlet manager settings i can change it so that opera mini surfs the web over the blackberry.net APN. is there another midlet manager i can install? or does this not work with BIS? if i delete the internet.com APN will it use the blackberry.net APN by default?

Has anyone been able to get the Samsung Blackjack i607 to work w/ this software?
The BB Connect cab installs fine on the BJ, but the desktop client won't generate a PIN.
There are some posts here where people just leave Outlook open during the desktop client install, but that's not working.
Any help please?

PIN will be generated first time you are connected to Blackberry.net APN. It is not generated when connected to a BES server (as you can imagine BB Connect can be used without it, using BIS)
So if PIN is not being generated, there is two possibilities:
1. Your account is not Blackberry activated. You can try your sim in a Blackberry device and see if you get connected or get data connection refused.
2. You are having the blocking issue, which is affecting many users, see above comments.

I don't recall if I tried the midlet manager while I was using s621 and blackberry connect. However, I was able to connect using internet.com with other apps, such as Active Sync. However, when I installed BBC Active Sync it wasn't working properly. After a hard reset, installing BBC first, then setting up internet.com, all was fine.

I downloaded and installed this version on a HTC TyTN (Hermes200) running WM6. Installed fine. However BBC is unable to register with network. When I attempt to register it goes through 'Network Available' -> 'Data Tunnel Available' and then to 'Not Connected'. The carrier Airtel India tells me that they do not see the device trying to register. Any suggestions.

As far as I know, it is the software on the device generating the PIN, as soon as it connects to network. Like I said, the desktop portion is only for Blackberry Enterprise Server. If the desktop was generating the PIN, Blackberry Internet Server users without a BES account would have been screwed.

Check the above comments, as there is good amount of info on what you are experiencing. Does the SIM card work on a Blackberry or another device Blackberry Connect? The reason I am asking, for the past couple of weeks, I haven't been able to use my SIM with BBC, and I was blaming it on the restrictions. It turned out to be an issue with the account. (Now I am stuck with restrictions, but at least I eliminated one issue ;))

Hi, tried BB connect on my Jamin.. does not work (BB-service enabled SP Etisalat/UAE).
I get Service
1. Network available
2. Data Tunnel Available
3. Not Connected
Additionally, If I try to connect to the Desktop, Active Synch reports PIN 0 from the device...
Does this BB connect work at all?

If your device is supported by your carrier and reported to RIM, yes. Even so, it requires certain ROM versions listed by your carrier, other versions will not work.

Blackberry Connect using BIS (not BES) on WM6, possible?

I am using a Rogers S621 Excalibur (Carrier, CID, & App unlocked).
On my phone I am running WM6 standard 5.2.1238 (Russian ROM)
On my computer I am running Vista.
I do have a BB Connect data plan on my account.
I have installed the BB Connect software seen here:

If I try to run the Blackberry Connect Desktop for Windows Mobile it begins to start up and then says "The account is not provisioned properly on the server" and then shuts down. I don't think that is an issue as I believe the desktop client is only for BES.
On my phone when I try to select the BB Connect app and select Register now it says:
Blackberry: Not Connected
Blackberry: Network Available
Blackberry: Data Tunnel Available
Blackberry: Not connected
On the BIS (www.rogers.com/bis) when I select "Change Device" and then enter my PIN & IMEI (found on my phone by selecting Blackberry>Settings>Identity ) it says: "The information you have provided could not be verified. Please check your information and try again".
On my phone when I select Start>Blackberry>Settings>Email Settings it says "Email settings unavailable".
What have I done wrong, or what can I try?

Yes, desktop client is only for BES.
After you select Register Now, did you receive a message under Messaging - System, stating your phone is registered with the network?
As far as I know Rogers does not support Blackberry connect on S621, you can call their data support to check it out. The problem might be related to your ROM, as I was able to run it on an English ROM just fine. For testing, you might want to try an English ROM and see what happens.
Email settings is unavailable, because you have not provisioned any email accounts on the device yet. Once you have a BES or BIS account setup, they'll become available.

Based on a little more research it is looking like Rogers will not allow WM generated BB PINs to register on the BIS. ...but I am still looking into it.

Hi Guys,
Just wanted to let you know that I've loaded this up on my T-Mobile Dash in the U.S. with a WM6 ROM. I've activated the Blackberry Enterprise Service option for my plan and it works great! It connected to my e-mail, tasks, contacts, and calendar just fine.
The only things I noticed that it's missing (compared to ActiveSync):
-Task start dates don't sync (all other things do)
-Calendar categories don't sync (all other things do)
However, these are small missing items for always having my Dash in sync with our server!
I have enabled the delete option to delete items on: Mailbox and Handheld. However, when I delete an e-mail on my phone, it still doesn't delete the e-mail on my server's Inbox. For the Conflicts option, I have Mailbox Wins.
This option is available via this path:
Start Menu/Blackberry Icon/Services/Blackberry-CMIME/View/Details

I never had that problem with my Dash with WM6. I wonder if it is related to your account. You can (or have your system admin) delete your Blackberry account from BES (and say yes to remove your settings from your mailbox) and then add you back.
Also, which version of BES are you using with what platform? (Exchange, Lotus, etc). It might be a bug on the BES itself.

Maybe the sync doesn't happen automatically? It does sync read and deleted e-mails when I hit the right softkey Menu/Synchronize Now selection manually while in the Inbox message list. I just noticed this option and it appears to have the desired affect. This wasn't in the manual! New e-mails arrive independently of this, but the syncing of read and delete status doesn't happen until I hit this menu option.
I really didn't expect this sync to require a button press, but I can see how it would save a lot of battery power. Works as designed? Did your Dash sync automatically?

I don't have Dash at hand (loaned it to a friend of mine). But from technical stand point, message reconciliation occurs after 3-5 minutes of inactivity. If the device is active then it will be either 20 minutes or after 100 changes. Did you wait long enough?

Yup, I waited that long. I took your advice. I had my sysadmin remove then recreate my account. In the meantime, I hard reserve my phone and activated it over the air, not via BlackBerry desktop. It now automatically syncs in the times you mentioned above.

I'm trying to run BB Connect 4.0 (BIS service) on a V1415 from vodafone. It installs and works fine, but if I switch off the phone and try to switch it back on, the phone just goes into a loop of trying to reboot, and I have to do a complete hard reset. Has anyone else tried this on the V1415 and is there a work around, other than the obvious....don't turn the phone off!!!!

FInally some update from RIM on HTC S710 and BB Connect 4.0
I did some more investigation on the HTC Vox and BlackBerry Connect. I have found out that Vodafone Germany has officially launched the HTC Vox with BlackBerry Connect, but they have yet to have posted a download link. The version they are supporting is 4.0.0.84.

I am using the new HTC touch.
I was trying to install the BB COnnect 4.0.0.90 and .67 versions. A new thing to share with you.
BB connect did not work with one simcard. But did work with another sim card.
The reason. . not known
but what i could find out was the sim card that worked was a 16k simcard. and mine was a 32k simcard.
Up to the techs to find out more..
I changed my sim to 16k and now it works fine..

I tried the Voda BBC before, while I was on WM5, and didn't work. Now I am on WM6 on my Treo 750c (leaked ATT rom). I tried BBC 4.0.0.90, 4.0.0.84 etc. w/ the same results, Network Available -> Data Tunnel Available -> Not connected. It never gets a PIN nor a connection. Any tricks ?

Hi Sems, just loaded BBconnect 4.0.0.9 on my Tytn (installed on Storage card, because it is at least 10mb program ,even though not sure if I can do that without incurring problems down the road).Installatio went smooth, EXCEPT this BBbrowser stuff. I clicked on IE explorer icon, and a popup message comes up" There is a fault in the Blackberry Browser configuration. Blackberry will try to correct the browser configuration and restart your device.Click OK to start". Was I supposedly supposed to find some BBBrowser Icon somewhere?or am I supposed to get to this BBbrowser through IE explorer. Anyways Tytn did soft reset,,I could see that BB service was working,, then of course went back to IEexplore icon,and got another message "The BlackBerry Browser could not be repaired,please contact your System Administrator"

There is a delay when a device wakes up and storage card is initialized, so I wouldn't recommend an installation to storage.
As for the Blackberry Browser, it becomes available as a shortcut under Blackberry folder, after you complete Enterprise activation. From experience, best way to ensure everything related to Blackberry works fine is to do a hard reset, install, finish BES and/or BIS setups. Then start installing your apps.

Thanks Sems, did not do a HR, but I did do install to Main, and did find my BBbrowser which did configure well. I am pretty sure I am getting compression from browsing IEexplorer now,seems slow though.I can always switch to OperaMINi 4.2(think it uses the Gprs ) which I think browses faster than compression feature in BBbrowser. Any comment on how big the program is?I guess if we want BBConnect thats the way it has to be. How much Storage Memory do you have left in Main? I only have 15mb. Guess I will have to dump a few programs. I somehow never see anyone complaining about the size on any of the forums.

I haven't done any memory tests when I was using BB Connect, but I can tell you it wasn't slow for me when I used the browser, but then again I was using HSDPA speeds.
Storage memory left in main has almost nothing to do with performance, as the Windows Mobile 5 and 6 device use that for storage and volatile RAM to run apps. The amount of RAM left will affect performance.

When I use the BB Connect for WM6 I got an erro saying some thing like there is an uncertified software installed and then the installation stops. What can I do?

I got it installed with the PPC vertion but now I can get connected. I can see that when the phone tries to connect to the service it says, network available, then data tunnel available and then not conected. What it can be? I did the installation like it says in the guide and nothing.

Simply run your File Explorer, browse where you copied the cab file and click on it to run and install it.

Please read the whole comments, it is a hit and miss with Blackberry Connect 4.0. It relies on your provider, your ROM version and device type. You might try a different ROM (for example there are many altered ROMs for Tytn, their rom versions are altered so that it will work, see www.xda-developers.com forums for such ROMs.)

Sems, as I mentioned, I had everything going,mail and BBBrowser, question: When I went to my favorite hotspot/or even at home using my Wifi, I went to Suspend service in BBsettings, and then turned on my Wifi,,then I clicked on IEexplorer (or even BBbrowser), and was not able to use my IEexplorer using Wifi. Are you aware of this phenomenon? If, not would you try that out and let me know if same for you.It pretty well tells you that you can't use/access the Ieexplorer without having that BBconnection active. Other applications that I use (Newsbreak)to get RSS updates, I can suspend, and use Wifi no problem. I guess my next question, depending on what your answer to this is, is, whether there is a BBconnect that is current for wm6, that Doesn't have a browser built in? I do like my Midlet manager, but not for my principal browser. Only thing that I personally can think of after this , is to try putting the Full Opera Browser, and see if I can Wifi on that one. I never tried to suspend and use the Pocket IE, or for that matter Wifi, when I was using Blackberry Connect, as my data plan was more than sufficient. So, I was using both Blackberry APN and my provider's APN and it was working fine, both connections worked at the same time. (I was receiving push email via both Blackberry Connect and ActiveSync at the same time).
What BBBrowser link does is to call IE with a proxy parameter. You can try to disable the proxy and see if that helps.
As soon as I can get my S621, I can try and see if I can replicate your issue, I don't have it handy.

Hello it's me again! Okay I have installed bbc on my device. on my system Ram, I couldn't get it on my mini sd card. Also, I now have a bb connection data plan. The problem now is that I am not able to get a pin so that I am able to register it it on the bis server. Can any one help with this issue please. My device is a hp hw6955 . . .

I am on vodafone UK, I have installed BBC 4.0 on my HTC TyTn (M3100)
I took the sim out of my blackberry and put it in my HTC (WM6) however when it tries to do a connect to blackberry my GPRS/3G connection fails with the message "remote modem terminated the connection" works fine on my blackberry phone! could it be that data connections not on my sim (its a work sim so I cant ring voda) or is it a setup issue?

It is a possible issue with ROM version/carrier. Did you try 4.0.0.90? (it is available on my site)

Try 4.0.0.84, I had problems with 90 on my Tytn II, whereas 84 worked flawlessly (reverse for some others). With BBC 4.0 it is a hit and miss, depending your device OS, Rom version and carrier.

HTC TyTN II WM6 profesional (3G..new one just out), problems with BBconnect.
I have read through the posts, and not found a solution. I have bb connect pocketpc 4.0.0.67 on the device, and bb connect desktop 2.1.1.21 on the PC...and using BES.
when connecting devise to PC to generate encryption, it says that the device is not connected (and it is) or software not running on device (and it is).
I have tried various combinations of device & PC software versions...the above is the closest I have got......and ideas please?

I hooked up blackberry connect yesterday and subscribed to a blackberry data plan w/ rogers, hooking it up on my dash. Email and Web are both working pretty well (still working out some hiccups with email). Thanks for all the help you've already given.
I had been curious whether or not bbconnect would route all internet traffic through the blackberry APN, or just web/email. Well, while running a GPRS traffic monitor it was pretty easy to determine that regular internet traffic (ie., irc, google maps, msn) still goes through the rogers APN.
Here's my Q: does being subscribed to a blackberry plan cover me for traffic that routes through internet.com? I don't want to end up with a hefty bill at the end of the month. The fellows at the Rogers store seem to think that it will 100% be covered. They say a data plan is a data plan and they don't care what APN it goes through. But all the same, I'd like to be certain...

First don't use 2.1.1.21 desktop with a 4.0.0.67 ppc. They are not compatible. I have used 4.0.0.84 on the device and it worked like a charm (didn't need the desktop, as I can activate wirelessly). 4.0.0.90 failed to generate PIN for me. (I am also using Tytn II)

As far as I know, yes, it covers your internet.com traffic as well. If you check a BB unit, you'll see even they have internet.com listed under TCP/IP settings.

Thanks...4.0.0.84 installed...however the problem establishing fist encryption link decive/PC..there seems to be an activesync conflict(using Vista)
On the desktop it says cannot connect to device...check it connected, an don the devise under service...network available, but blocked active sync connected.

The procedure would be:
1. Install cab.
2. Run Blackberry control panel app. Follow on screen prompts and let it reset the unit.
3. Once unit is reset, wait for couple of minutes, it will connect to the Blackberry APN (make sure ActiveSync schedule is not set to receive items as they arrive). Then once connected, it will assign a PIN number.
4. Once you have the PIN, you can either connect the unit to the desktop, run Blackberry Connect Desktop 4 and provision the unit or use Wireless Activation, where you don't connect the unit to the pc, but use Activation tab in Blackberry app. There enter your email address and activation password (set by your BES Admin). Then the service books, it policy and PIM data will be synced with the device.
So connecting the device to PC is actually optional, but I have tried using to test if that portion works and it was fine, I am also using Vista and device was provisioned successfully.

I have lateset version off BBC working on my JASJAM (no problems there). However, does any one know how to stop the BBC Security from kicking in when I'm using Tomtom GPS software. It was suggested that I suspend the BBC service but this does not have any effect.

That's a weird issue, never tried Tomtom when I was using BBC. What happens if you disable the password in BBC Security? Which version of Tomtom are you using?

There is sub versions to 6, like for HTC 3600, they had 6.30 and for Tytn II, they had 6.32. So, you might want to check with Tomtom to see if there is an available update. Even though a minor version increase may include a fix (for example 6.32 includes support for internal AGPS, if I am not mistaken, where 6.30 did not have it)

Hi guys, I have an HTC P3000 recently upgraded to WM6. I've tried most of the BBC versions mentioned above but I couldn't make it work. It gets PIN but never connects. It seems that T-Mobile sells the same handset as MDA Compact III with BBC on it (probably on WM5). Any idea where I could get their ROM to test it?

Rogers HTC S621 Rom update(Oct 2007) & BB Connect
I have had good service for over 6 months with BB Connect using the Tmobile wm6 upgrade. Yesterday I loaded the Rogers Rom update and I cannot get the BB Connect to work. The BES server sees my phone.....but I cannot get my mail or contacts. Is it true that there is no support for this new update???

It has no connection to any other data application except the Blackberry. Has anyone seen this? Is there a way to create a proxy for the windows applications? I am using a Motorola Q phone with WM5 and have installed BBC 4 (disabling ActiveSync). BBC Setup complains "Unable to determine the device's network type..." I am using Verizon with full data/text package. I cannot find anywhere to help BBC resolve the network. Any clues? Has anyone gotten BBC to work on the Q and Verizon? Thanks.

With most providers, you should be able to setup and connect to their Internet APN and use that for apps that won't work with Blackberry APN.

I have tried various versions. the .90 is the pro version and does not even load. What I am reading in other forums is that BES has a new update (server) oct 3 so my IT dept says they have not updated it yet. I am guessing that is the problem. As I mentioned, I connect to the server....but I only get 1/3 of the services that I used to with the tmobile wm6 rom.
If you have other thoughts....and my assumption is incorrect...please let me know!...ty

The update is a hotfix to 4.1.4, as far as I know, and should not affect your service books. (We haven't applied it either, but all was fine with my Tytn II)
With that said, I had the best success, installing the BB4 right after a hard reset. Did you give it a shot like that?

Hi,
I initially tried installing "BBConnect 4.0 Smartphone" on my HTC TyTN II. Got an error - "uncertified system software detected". I then downloaded BBConnect 4.0 Pocket PC Phone Edition and ran the setup. Installation went through and my device prompted me to restart but then it just hung. I did a soft reset to restart my device but it only comes to Windows Mobile Welcome Screen and then nothing happens. I am able to receive calls though but other than that unbale to do anything with my phone. I am able to connect to it through active sync. Wondering if OS is corrupted.

The software does not overwrite the files in ROM, so OS is definitely not corrupted.
The restart issue happens with some versions of the software with some devices. For Tytn II, you'd have to hard reset the unit, then install the 4.0.0.84 version, which works well with it (I have used it myself).

To my knowledge, Telus does not offer Blackberry Connect, only Bell does and you'd have to use the client they posted on businessonthego1.com site, which is unfortunately 2.1, not 4.0.

Hi, just need a little help,I flashed the new Rogers WM6 to my unlocked Dash and it works great, love it, the only problem I am having is I installed BBConnect old version and new version Blackberry Connect 4.0 (dl form this site)and it won't connect. The wierd thing is when you try to refresh BBConnect it says "Network Available" then "Data Tunnel etc" then it goes right to "Not Connected" and I can't get it to connect?
I had to re-flash back to WM5 to make it work and I have no problems.
Please any any help would be great as I would like to run WM6.. Oh and yes I am using Roger BB data plan.

I had Blackberry Connect 4.0.0.84 working with q9h. My provider is Rogers. It should hopefully work. It is a bit of hit and miss with Blackberry Connect 4.

Ok, I have a JasJam (TyTn) running WM6 & BBC 4..90 and all is working well on BES. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, my company has disabled the Internet ICS [ippp'> and IPPP for 5 Click [ippp'> and there went my internet browsing.
I no longer have an MDS or Internet browser under the Blackberry folder.
Is there anyway to manually setup a connection that would use the Blackberry.net APN and allow IE to resume browsing via BB?
Note: Blackberry Internet Browsing Service is installed and active. They just nuked the browser part.
Any advice would be appreciated.

If browsing is blocked by it policy, there is not much can be done. Did you try to contact your IT dept? Maybe it was a bad setup? You can set up a separate connection, disable proxy in ie and use it, but of course it won't be through blackberry.net APN.

Thanks for the followup. I thought that would be the answer but doesn't hurt to check.
I have contacted my IT department and they have said that our carrier was pushing additional browsers onto the BB handsets that were using their own APN, not BB, and so were incuring additional charges. As a result they used a policy to disable all 'third party' applications.
This has removed the MDS Browser from my handset and stopped me from websurfing using the BB service.
The fees for connecting via native carrier APN are out of this world so looks like I have lost browser access until we get something like the BB Application Suite.

Just curious, who is your carrier? I have used Telus, Bell Mobility, Rogers, ATT/Cingular and none had such charges.
Also, Blackberry Browser is part of Blackberry. So it will use MDS and Blackberry.net APN. This just doesn't make sense. I can understand them blocking the third party apps, but integrated apps shouldn't be problem.

Trying to get this working on my Palm Treo 750v with mobile 6. (CE OS 5.2.1239 (build 17746.0.2.4))
Installed version 4 from above
Get a pin.
It shows the imei
IP Adress: No connection
Status screen : Service not connected.
In screen : Utility. I can choose lookup (wont work).
Email settings is grayed out.
Register now (if i click he tries to get a connection), but after a few seconds it stopped.
I have acces to my bes server. Everything alright there.
Perhaps not the right client for the treo.
I tried the older version 2.1x but same problem.
No connection.
I hope someone can help me with this ?

You can try 4.0.84 or 90 (available from this site) or download the 2.1 from Palm's site for Treo 750v.
Blackberry Connect 4 is picky on ROM version, device model, and carrier.

Tried also the 2.1 version. But it never connects.
With 2.1 i can send messages when connected to the pc.
Tried with the cingular wm5 rom. version 2.1 4.X same issue. Perhaps i have a doomed device for blackberry.
Perhaps i must stick with visto (pushmail), thats working. But i like the blackberry environment much more (secure).
Using vodafone as carrier btw.

Many 750v users had issues. Officially Palm does not support BBC on WM6.

OMG, after much trying I've finally got BBC BIS working on my ATT 8525. I'm using the Schap's 4.0 ROM and the latest BBC from sems, BBConnect_WM6_Professional_BB_4.0.0.90.cab
I tried 4.0.0.84 but it didn't work, but 4.0.0.90 did the trick.
I went too long without doing this.

Anyhow, BBC is supported in WM6 - see recently released Q9h in the US. I've got a TMO Shadow that's *supposed* to support BBC but no dice. Tried 4...67 and 84 but no dice. I keep getting 'unsupported device'. Maybe i should stop using pre-release devices.

Hi,
i was previously using a sony eriscsson m600i and it handled multiple internet connections at the same time. i am now using an HTC tytnII (kaiser) and i cant figure out how that is possible. heres the scenario.
I have separate connections (apn) for
1. pushmail
2. mobiletv
3. data
4. BB
back in my m600, i was able to configure different programs to use specific apns and they would work simultaneously. alternatively i was also able to give a list (with order) of connections an application would try when it attempted to connect.
My problem now is that in my kaiser, if i use my push client it requires my pushmail apn to be active (its unlimited as compared to a pay-as-you-go on the data connection) if i want to browse, i have to manually connect the data apn, similarly with bb connect. is there any solution to this ? or does wm6/kaiser jsut not connect to multiple apns ? (it does connect to wifi along with some apn)
any help would be much appreciated.

I haven't been been able to use multiple APNs on Kaiser, though I have seen some people swearing that they were able to. Technically, it is possible to connect multiple APNs on Windows Mobile, I had done it with S621, where I would simulataneously connect to Blackberry and Data APNs. Maybe there is a radio firmware that supports it on Kaiser.

I have the T-Mobile Dash running WM5. I recently installed BBConnect v4 and it works great! I do have one issue though I can no longer connect to the Internet and if I can it is extremely slow (5+ min to get to a site). The Interent worked great prior to installing BBConnect.
Any one else experience similar issue ofr have any ideas?

Mern, are you using Blackberry Internet Service (BIS) or Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES)? Are you using the Internet Browser or Blackberry Browser or Internet Explorer link? Tomorrow or over the weekend when I have some time, I surely can check.
If you are using BES, simply add your Active Directory user to the BES and set activation password. You don't need to add your PIN there, unless you have a BES Policy called "Enterprise Service Policy" in effect, which will allow only listed PINs, PIN ranges or device types. Check with your BES Admin (I am a BES Enterprise Server Consultant, if you need anything further, let me know, I know ins and outs of it ;))
The software checks the device model, AKU version and carrier. If your carrier does not officially support your device, you may be kicked out of the network (I had that issue with my HTC Trinity, where it was fine for two weeks, then it stopped working).

I have been reading through this page with great interest.
Less than a week ago I took an UK O2 Stellar out its box, which came with BB Connect 4. I ?naively thought that because I had a work BB, I could simply put the sim card in the new phone, install BB Connect and be off and running. I couldn't get it to work, so out of frustration hard resetted and put the BB Connct 4 CD back in the box and have been Activesyncing ever since.
However, my work's phone contract charges for data that does not go through BB APN. Is it possible to not install BB Connect (i remember it screwing up my internet browser settings etc, which is why I hard reset everything) but tell my Connections Manager to somehow route my data/GPRS back and forth through the BB APN?

Unfortunately, without BB Connect, you cannot connect to Blackberry APN. Have you tried different versions available on this site? I got 4.0.0.67, 84, 90, 91, 92.

I tried it on my friend's sim card, and it went well, it connected and everything, but it tried to use GPRS instead of EDGE which is the one that the plan comes with and GPRS is the one my plan charges. Im from Mexico and im not sure if that happens because of the configuration of my service provider or something that I need to change on my phone.
Do you know anything about it?

I guess I shoud give it another go before I completely write it off. Afterall, I did try to set it up having never done this before (I'm new to BB, let alone BB Connect) and without the benefit of any instructions with the software (which I now have, thanks to your site). Maybe I did something wrong.
To help me if I do try install BB again:
1. Once installed, do I need to get my work's IT/my phone provider to reassign my BB account to the new PIN/phone, or is that all done by BB Connect 4?
2. The phone did not come with any desktop software. My existing BB desktop software kept crashing everytime I plugged in the smartphone after Connect was installed. This is what started to get me worried last time. Question: do I actually need desktop software (I've downloaded but not installed ActiveSync_BBConnect_Desktop_Setup_4.0.0.17)? Will it replace the existing software, upgrade it, or do I need to remove the old desktop software. (Also - apart from syncing some files, I don't really know what the desktop software is for - must you use it to configure your BB/smartphone or can you configure everything from the phone anyway?). Is it just a backup for syncing and configuring the phone if for some reason I don't have a phone signal or something?
3. If I want to use activesync (to sync files and favourite internet pages) but also BB Connect - if it is necessary to use (see last question) - won't they conflict? They'll both be trying to hook up to the phone when I plug it to my PC; won't this cause problems?

Hi Matthew,
1. If you use the BB Connect Desktop Client, you don't have to contact your IT dept, unless they don't allow unlisted PIN numbers to be added/used (it is a Enterprise Security feature, by default users can use any device/PIN). If you want to do a wireless activation, then your IT dept will need to assign an activation password, required for it.
2. BB Connect desktop is an optional component. If you connect via Outlook to your Exchange server, it can do a wired activation. Since BB Connect also supports wireless activation, it is not a must. When you install a newer version, normally BB Connect Desktop upgrades the old installation. Anything you can configure from desktop is available on the phone, like which folders to sync, filters, etc.
3. Activesync and BB Connect will conflict, only if they access to same database. BB Connect will not allow you to sync calendar, contacts, tasks or notes if you sync them with ActiveSync. The rest are independent, including emails, files, favorites. For example one time I was using email sync via both, as sometimes I needed to search emails on the server and Activesync + Exchange 2007 + WM6 allows it, whereas BB has no such solution yet. Also when you connect the unit via usb, bb will be smart enough to suspend itself.

Hey Luis,
I haven't seen any provider charging extra for Edge usage. Depending upon coverage, your phone should normally use the highest available connection. For example mine will use HSDPA -> UMTS -> EDGE -> GPRS in this order. The charges will be the same.
I'd say check with your provider. There should not be separate charges for Edge and Gprs.

The good news is that BB is pushing email to my phone. The bad news is it is not doing it via blackberry.net - it's doing it by my old GPRS settings, which means it must be costing $$$.
Symptoms - the Blackberry symbol has an exclamation point (suspended/blocked). Under Idenitity > it says Ip Address: No connection. Under status ? resume is grayed out.
In the connections manager, there is no new connection account - I thought BB Connect would set up a new account etc.
How can I resolve this?

My problems solved - it's pushing emails again. I soft reset and re-registered.
Does anyone know, then:
a) Is it possible to move items in the inbox to other folders (in Outlook, it used to be MOVE... and in my old BB devce it was FILE... but neither of these appear in the menu. Have I lost this functionality with BB Connect?
b) How can I chance the email that come through to my System 'account' apart from messages about registration it is pushing my yahoo account (and some other POP accounts), as I set these up on my old BB device. Not sure how to stop this as it is doubling up with the accounts I set up as indivual accounts on my new phone (which i prefer, as System throws them all into the one Inbox, together).

Tafelpoo, make sure to install the app to the main memory. It won't work from storage card. Also which version are you using? You can try a different version (see http://www.sems.org/entry.asp?ENTRY_ID=276)
Matthew, glad to hear it started to work. BB Connect creates a new connection, but it is hidden, you can't see it through the Settings, you can see it through registry though.
a.) If I recall correctly (I don't have it installed on any of my devices right now), something similar to File should be there. Did you check the menu before or after opening the message?
b.) I never setup BIS on BB Connect, so can't help much there. Have you checked the documentation? Am I correct to understand, the BIS emails are coming to both System and individual accounts?
GTQ2, thanks for the comment. Glad it works. Some versions don't work with some devices, for example .90 and above did not work for my HTC Kaiser, but .84 worked like a charm.

A) resolved. 'Move ...' appears in the menu in the Inbox, but not in the Message's menu. It's a tiny bit more cumbersome than it was for Activesync (which had it appear in both menus), but good enough.
B) Yes. It's coming in both accounts (and therefore duplicating). I'd prefer it not to come to System since System throws everything into the same bucket. Had a brief look in manual, but will have another look.

I worked out the System emails issue - there was a link in the BB settings (when you click the BB icon), which took me to a internet link where I could then add and remove email accounts.
I have had some syncing issues - not everything syncs 100% right (folder moves and deletes), but think I've narrowed this down to conflicts - where I've moved something on the device, but then opened it on my PC in the inbox before it's had a chance to update the move (so the PC wins, and BB puts it back in the Inbox). Fingers crossed.
Anyway, thanks for your help. And happy BBing to all.

The only information I found on xda-developers.com is that you have to hack the rom, to make BBConnect 4.0 work. Since I have the official T-Mobile Rom I don't have the nbh file to hack. Does 4.0.0.84 work w/o hacking the Rom? Maybe just changing the AKU?

I didn't do any hacking on Athena, so if I remember correctly, 4.0.0.84 should work. You can always revert back to 5.0 ROM.

Sems, can you help me again (or anyone else)?
a) I can't get BB to work any more. It has the BB logo with the exclamation mark. This apparently means something else is blocking the connection, but there is no other application running. I keep hitting the register button, but this doesn't seem to have any effect.
b) do you know how to run other applications requiring GPRS connection once you install BB Connect eg Google Maps for Mobile. Installing BB Connect seems to screw up all other apps' ability to connect to the internet. Suspending BB C doesn't seem to be enough.
(Or Does question B answers question A ... is it possible that installing Google Maps screwed up BB Connect?)

a. The best way to ensure nothing is blocking the connection, make sure you don't have any other connections listed under the Settings - Connections. Also another thing you can check is the startup items, maybe there is an item, like a weather software, updating its data. You can of course backup, hard reset and try installing BBC as the first thing. Lastly, you can suspend Blackberry and start it, sometimes that helps too.
b. That's weird. My trick to ensure all connections are fine was:
1. Hard reset.
2. Install BBC. Make sure it is working. Activate BES.
3. Setup my non-BB APN.
4. Setup apps.
Many apps will not work with Blackberry APN, but they are smart enough to suspend BB and use the APN from step 3.
Setting up new apps should not screw up BBC.

You can try 67, 90 or 91. And best way to try is to hard reset the unit and install BBC as the first thing.

I am really starting to think the whole BB thing is unreliable, SEMS. I have lost my faith.
I don't know why people use it - it's so temperamental compared to Activesync.
I have just realised it hasn't been syncing my tasks and contacts for a few days. I now have tWo completely different lists for tasks, for example. I spend literally hours per week trying to resolve these issues, manually syncing things it misses, when it's supposed to make life easier and more organised - how can I when it loses data like a sieve??!!
Not to mention that fact that it seems unable to sync even my inbox 100% of the time.
What is the point??

BB is reliable with RIM hardware. Works rock solid. Never a crash or any similar issues. However, can't say the same for Blackberry Connect. The problem is the device hardware varies, providers apply different policies (preventing multiple APN connections, which is normally supported by WM6) and WM6 apps are not Blackberry APN aware most of the time, causing issues.
With all that said, I never had a problem with sync. No duplicate records, unsynced data, anything. It might be related to your company's BES server. We are running Exchange 2007 SP1 (didn't have issues with Exchange 2003 either before) and BES 4.1.4 SP4.

Okay, it's syncing tasks and contacts again.
I did a couple of things, but don't quite know what got it going again....
1) I un-selected Tasks in BB PIM tab on device. it warned me that I would lose my tasks, which I did (after I closed and reopened task program on device, it was emtpy)
2) I then reselected it, but nothing happend. No tasks. *mild panic, as I thought 'what if it decides t0 sync by deleting all the tasks on my PC?'*
3) I then soft reset. Then BB device had trouble getting a connection, but i know know if this happens (see above), to try soft resetting a couple of times. Eventually it gets a connection.
4) I left it for about 10mins and reopened tasks. My tasks were there, transferred from my PC. I also checked my COntacts on PC, and a Contact I added to my device yesterday showed up there.
I never unselected/reselected Contacts, so I suspect it was properly the rest that fixed it.
So I'm back on track (for now). Thought I would share this, as maybe Sems or someone else might know what would have caused it to stop and then start syncing again.
It's all a bit of a mysterious dark art to me.

Yeah I know, sometimes you have to do voodoo magic to get Blackberry Connect working.
One of the common solutions suggested by RIM is to delete the service books and undelete them on the Blackberry devices, if a sync issue occurs. I guess unchecking tasks, resetting, checking it back triggered the service book update.
A service book contains information that configures how your BlackBerry device interacts with the BlackBerry Infrastructure. It also enables specific services for your BlackBerry device. The selection of service books on your BlackBerry device depends upon the features provided by your wireless service provider and the IT policies set up by your organization. (see blackberry kb)
Since Contacts and Tasks used the same service book (BlackBerry [sync'> in this case), it probably fixed contacts as well. Next time, you might want to ask your sys admin at work to send you the service books. It can be done easily from BES.

May be you know whether it is possible at all to install BB (presumably 2.1) on my WM6 device and get connected to the corporate BES server using SIM card of the carrier which does not provide BB service (ie via "regular" GPRS connection with apn carrier.internet.com) and if yes, what steps should be taken?

Thank you for your kind comments MaxT. The answer would be no, as Blackberry Connect requires connectivity to blackberry.net APN and without your account having a BB Service, you can't access to it. Should you decide to get BB Service, I'd highly recommend using 4.x version, as it provides much more functionality, including wireless activation.

First thing to try, different versions. Not all versions work on all devices. For example .92 will not work with HTC Tytn II, where as .84 is fine.

I'd recommend reading the user guide, esp. page 60. Service books are on your device, under Services tab. Your IT Admin people can resend them, also can set via BES policy, which ones are available to you. Read also the KB link I put in my previous comment about service books.
ps. Maybe it is time you introduce these pages to your IT guys :)

Hey, I got my internet stuff working - I forgot to reset the phone company's settings (I thought that because My Connection Manager settings looked the same as before the hard reset, it didn't need to be redone, but when I ran the set up phone company's wizard thing from the sim card, it started working .. there was much nail-biting as I clicked it by accident whilst on holiday. I had visions of BB not working because I thought the new settings mught overwite some of the BB installation, but it worked ...)
Still don't know why BB doesn't always sync full inbox or all contacts all the time (or why it can't seem to send appointment requests through my BB email account) but to quote meatloaf (66% functionality "ain't bad"). Service books maybe?

Partial sync errors should not be related to service books, your IT guys should check BES logs. Also, they may not have applied latest patches, which might be an issue.
You can try this:
1. Hard reset unit.
2. Have your BES account deleted and BES settings removed (it is an option during BES account deletion, your IT guys should know it).
3. Add your user to BES. Set activation password.
4. Install BBC and activate
If you don't want to hard reset, you can try uninstall, reinstall and reactivate.

In Windows Mobile 6, under Messaging options, there is a setting, where you can select where you want attachments to be stored. Also you can check http://forum.xda-developers.com site, there are many Touch ROMs there working fine with BBC.

nice post, I read through most of the comments. I grabbed the latest BBC and installed it on my Eten Glofiish M700 running WM6. No luck, after popping in my Rogers SIM Card which connected to Blackberry fine on my Pearl 8100, it goes E for edge for a few seconds, then disconnects, with the B icon having an X next to it.
Would be nice if it worked, then I'd have WinMo, Blackberry, and GPS all in one package instead of carrying around two or more gadgets.
Thanks for the heads up Aaron. I had tried in the past with X800 as well and that failed too. I haven't seen anybody running BBC successfully on Eten devices, but who knows :), sometimes trying different versions may help (.84 was fine on my HTC Tytn II, .92 failed, for example).

Can Sem, I successully installed the BBConnect 4.0 for Pocket PC Edition to my Dopod 900 with Windows Mobile 5. After installed, I click the icon of BBConnect and the screen ask me to choose the Carrier, after that it compelte the setting and reboot. The horrible things is I can't start the device again and it hold up during the Windows Mobile Screen no matter how many times I soft reset. May I ask your help how can I get rid of this trouble? Unfortunately, it looks like you'll have to hard reset the unit. Before doing so, try one last thing, try to boot without a sim card and see if that helps.

Dr Savant, the bandwidth usage is pretty much similar, as they are using similar compression technology.
Flipfone, first and foremost, make sure you have Blackberry service enabled under your account. Second, as far as I have seen, only 2.x versions of BBC is available for CDMA devices. You might want to check with your carrier to see if they support 4.x. Also when installing make sure to install under Main Memory.

I've just had a blackberry BIS account setup today with my provider, after trying a few versions of the software on this site all is well (email coming to my phone almost instantly, the blackberry internet explorer link works (albeit slowly))
as the bb service replaces my previous data service, anything over the normal GPRS is now quite expensive -- is there any way to get opera (mobile, vers 8.65) to connect via the blackberry connection?

Some apps, like IM+ works just fine. For some others, you may need to setup proxy settings. I don't have a device at hand running BBC, so I can't tell where exactly find the proxy settings, but if you search the registry for word "proxy", you should be able to find it.

It is big, but since it needs to start right at the boot, it is a requirement. After install, you will need to activate a BIS or a BES account to be able to use it. I recommend reading the user guide, it is all in there.

I have cingular 8525 with WM5 and I am using bb connect 4.0067 on rogers network.
Everything working fine as far as emailing; however, I can't use pin to pin as it is greyed out same as reply and forward for just the system folder.
Does anyone know of any bb connect software version that has pin working.

Unfortunately all the BBC software I tried on Windows Mobile is limited to receiving PIN. You cannot send a new one or reply or forward.

I believe BBC on Palm is capable of sending PINs. I tried on S60 as well as Windows Mobile, neither was capable of sending.

I have a HTC Touch with BlackBerry Connect 4.0.0.100.
I am on my service provider's BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
The problem is that it is impossible to connect to the RIM GPRS.
My service's provider does not give technical assistance to HTC (monopoly issues).

Hi there,
I know it may sound a bit silly but could you explain how to receive e-mails on a HP 514 Voice Messenger:
SIM-card is Blackberry - ready (it works in a BB 8100 Pearl)
HP 514 Voice Messenger works with Windows Mobile 6.
As I am not an advanced user, I would appreciate a kind of manual to set this up.

Pacita, have you tried different versions of BBC? Which OS are you running 6.0 or 6.1? There are ROMs for Touch that work fine with BBC, you can find them at xda-developers.com forums.
HP514, I haven't seen anyone successfully running BBC on HP 514, but you can find the manual at http://sems.org/content/download/bbc4/BlackBerry_Connect_4.0_ppc_user_guide_english.pdf

Hey guys...quick question....I bought a Htc tilt from someone who apparently was using blackberry connect already...He has an account with the pin number and imei number....so when i installed it on the phone it just goes back to his pin. When i try to set up an email account, it says account already exist for pin and imei number. and i dont know his username or password... I have no contact for the guy i bought it from...so how do i go about creating a new account with the blackberry connect service

You can go to your carrier's BIS (Blackberry Internet Service) website, you can find it on Blackberry.com the links, if you need it.
There you can create a new account or reset password. The PIN number of a BBC device is based on IMEI, so that's why PIN stayed the same.

After purchasing the AT&T Tilt specifically to run BBC, they refused to give me the BlackBerry International Plan that I wanted, claiming it won't work with BlackBerry Connect. (Even though I was told last week that it would!)
Is this true? Or should I just tell them I have a Blackberry and get the plan?
Depending on who I speak to, one rep says it won't work at all to take a SIM with a Blackberry plan and use it on BBC on my Tilt, and others say it will work, but I will be billed for data usage since they will "see" that it isn't a Blackberry.
Any ideas? I would try it and see, but if it doesn't work, I'm stuck on a 1 year contract that I don't need!

They are bunch of idiots. Their support and sales staff is under trained mostly. Blackberry International Plan will work fine with BBC.
You don't normally need to tell them anything about BB Connect, you can say you have a Blackberry, but they might ask a PIN / IMEI, so you'll need a valid one.
Unfortunately, I cannot guarantee anything, it is really dependent on the agent. If all is setup properly, it will work fine.

Thanks for your help! Maybe I'll try calling back a few times and see if I can find someone to add the BB Int'l Plan without me giving them an IMEI or PIN, so I don't have one. I wonder if I can somehow generate a PIN with the BBC software?

Hi Sems, I was wondering if you know if the any version of BlackBerry Connect (2.x or 4.x) works on CDMA networks like Sprint's. I'm thinking of getting a Touch Pro from Sprint, and I want to make sure that the thing can sync with my office's BES-only email setup.

I haven't seen any 4.x but Bell Canada (uses CDMA) had released 2.x for the Motorola Q. However, as I haven't used any Blackberry Connect on a CDMA device, I don't know if it would work (plus don't forget, you'll need to find a version for Pocket PC devices, Q is a Smartphone Edition).

Thanks so much for these files. I've got it successfully running on my S620 running WM 6.1. Works pretty well, although it's still got a few quirks.
However...is there a way to bypass (registry edits, some other method?) the IT policy for password locking of the device? My company's BES policy locks devices requiring a password after 5 (!) minutes of inactivity, and it is the single most annyoning thing about my old BB. Any ideas?

Unfortunately, WM can only receive PIN messages, it cannot send them.

If you want to try some newer versions, they are listed there. As for the IT Policy, it is one of the security features of the BB system. You cannot bypass it. You can ask your BES admin, if they are willing to increase the timeout.

I have a blackberry device connected to our corporate BES. I am thinking about purchasing a win mobile device with blackberry connect if it will allow me to bypass my companies it restrictions.
For example, I am not allowed to download and install 3rd party apps on my bb. My internet browser is routed through my company server in Germany, which is very slow.
So if I moved to blackberry connect / WM, would I get away from these restrictive IT policies?

I've been watching this whole dialogue for a few months. As I've been desiding if I should dump my HTC diamond on Telus CDMA and just switch over to BB. I really need to have the performance and function of PIN services...since some of my clients have BB's but also need the functionality of WM6 os for everyday work. In your opinion...is it possible and practical or will it even work on Telus the consept of BB Connect with PIN to PIN messaging?

IT Policies still do apply. You can get away from some of them (like disabling password requirement), but browsing, etc. still apply. Did you try to set the default browser to BIS instead of BES?

All the different versions of BBConnect I have used on various WM6 devices had only supported receiving PIN, no sending. Plus be careful with your choice of device, as some devices work with BBC, some don't (depending on carrier, OS version and device model)

Hi Sems,
I have an HTC 8525 cingular unlocked with WM5 and installed BB Connect 4.0 pocket pc phone edition.
I want to mention that I use this in the country of Chile on the Movistar carrier.
I was there for three weeks and contracted their BB service and it went pretty good except for one issue.
Every time I used BIS for surfing the net or send and receive emails, it would disconnect my voice service and I would then have to disconnect the blackberry.net and reboot only with the voice carrier.
I resolved this issue by keeping the BB service suspended so that my phone would receive/make calls and only connect BB at specific time of sending/receiving mails and disconnecting immediately after use.
It would be great if both the BB and voice service could work simultaneously
Any Ideas ??

That's a weird issue Monty. Never had an issue with voice when I was using BBC.
Couple of ideas:
1. The issue might be related to radio ROM version. Did you try to update it?
2. Which version of BBC are you using? You can try different versions and see if it helps. Latest one is .104. See http://www.sems.org/entry.asp?ENTRY_ID=338 for all latest versions.

I have a slightly different problem but perhaps someone here can help.
I have a non-blackberry phone which I really like (Dash, WM6) and a boss who feels strongly about being able to IM me via PIN message.
Does anyone know of an app I (or he) could download to my phone (or his blackberry) that would let him continue to use PIN messaging to contact me?

Most of the devices I used with Blackberry Connect supports only receiving of PIN. You won't be able to send out PIN messages.
Upcoming Blackberry Application Suite supports PIN messaging both ways, along with BB Messenger, but currently its release date is unknown.

If the apps support proxy, you can use localhost:1025 (see comments under http://www.sems.org/entry.asp?ENTRY_ID=276). If not, your only option is to setup your carrier's APN. Then winmo apps will temporarily suspend the BB connection and connect to your carrier APN. However, make sure, your carrier does not charge extra for this. Some are known to charge.

everything works fine except that when i reboot my tytn...i get all emails from the mailbox duplicatedor triplated..quadruplated...etc..any clue on how to solve that ?

Sorry Joyce, unfortunately, the only other solution is to use Wifi for those apps.
Cedric, I'd recommend checking the BES logs, see what is triggering the re-send. Do you have any email redirection rules setup?

hi, i am looking for alterantives to using MNotes5 (as its gone haywire and they have not been able to sort it yet) with Lotus Notes as the client.
I currently have a good data package (6GBpm) deal with Rogers (I benefited when they released the iPhone) so don't want to change that if I'm not sure using something else is going to work.

I use Dopod U1000 and try to activate BB connect on it. I have tried version 2.1 on WM6 original HTC ROM (upgraded from WM5 original ROM) it could generate PIN but I could not register to create account on my carrier in Indonesia (Telkomsel), comment is "Invalid PIN or IMEI format". I also try several BB connect 4 (67, 84, 90, 100, 106) version on your page, Install it without problem and generate the same PIN (66EBFXXX) with version 2.1 and still could not create account with same comment.
Downgrade the to original WM5 ROM and install BB 2.1 and get the same PIN and it could not create account with the same command. Check my AKU on registry AKU (HKLM\System\Versions\AKU)and found only 0.3.1.
Then upgrade ROM back to WM6 original and still get the same condition.BB connect installed is 4.0.0.90 from HTC website(for dopod D810. prior installed 90 I had installed from your page which is 4.0.0.100.
IP address : No connection while my service on carrier has been activated (BB subscription on Telkomsel. Could you help me please to solve my problems, because some users use BB connect on WM5?

Thank you! My BB got dunked it water and my spare got stolen. I got a DASH for 40 bucks, fixed it up and installeded BB connect. What a lifesaver. Now I can get my work emails. Shoot I like it so much, I just may keep it!
